A very nice gun that'll last a very long time. A lot of people prefer them to the current GP series from Ruger. You'll enjoy it if you like guns.

I've had one (2") for over twenty years with a bobbed hammer and a trigger job. It works flawlessly and digests 357 magnum loads with no complaints and/or apparent looseness. A set of old Pachmayer rubber grips makes it easy to shoot and dampens recoil nicely. It is accurate (for a belly gun) and doesn't recoil like a wild horse as some newer "lightweight" revolvers do.

The Speed Six is the round butt, fixed sight version of the classic Security Six. There's a square butt fixed sight version called the Service Six. I had to file my Service Six front sight down a bit to get it on target at 10 yards.

They're very reliable, pretty heavy (mine is 35.2 oz loaded), and built like a tank. A trigger job's a good idea, as the factory triggers are a bit heavy. Despite the weight, recoil's pretty stiff with full-blown .357 magnum if you have the wooden grips.

If it's a 150- prefix serial number, replacement grips are difficult to find, and rubber ones are nearly non-existent. Post 150 SNs are easy to find grips for, and a rubber grip helps tame the recoil a lot, as Trago says.

I had a problem with mine right after I got it when a screw on the cylinder release backed out and prevented me from opening the cylinder (luckily unloaded). I sent it to Ruger on my dime, and they sent it back a week or so later, repaired and with several parts replaced, no cost. Not bad customer service for a used gun that had been out of production for over 20 years!

Lucky dawg. Those Speed Sixes are getting harder to find.

I have a Stainless bead blasted Speed Six that had trigger work done by one of Bill Davis's apprentices. With the Pachmayer Presentation grips it shoots fine. I am consistently low left right handed and low right left handed. I think the gun shoots fine but I'm messed up. You will be very happy with it as it is reasonable to handle for a 357. I have a few snubby Colts that give me pains the day after I shoot them.

Great guns. Positive lockup, very robust, and comes apart like a military weapon. Not as complicated as removing the side plate on a smith and goin' at it. You'll be very happy.

Thank you, I bought it off another member here. I love that gun. I forgot to mention that the sharp edges have all be removed as well.

I like that little... moon? in front of the trigger guard, looks like a nice place to put the offhand finger for support.
