If you could get any gun...

So my nephew called me up looking for advice because he wants to surprise his dad with a new gun for his birthday. Well, said nephew lives in Virginia, so I realized he could buy any gun he wanted and gift it to his dad. Now that is a birthday present!

So what should I tell him to get? It needs to be under $800, and preferably 9mm.

I'm thinking XDm 5.25. Our brother-in-law has an XD compact and he really likes the gun, so I figure the XDm's are even better. I'm sure there are lots of things I don't even know about, because I live in CA so don't even get to see a lot of the guns that are out there.

Note I said 9mm. All the handguns we own (him, I and our other brother) are 9mm (well except the .22's), so keeping it to that would be best, plus it's the cheapest to shoot, so that's a bonus.

My buddy is not a big gun guy, well he actually thinks he is but all his guns are POS and I'd trust my 6 y/o niece to watch my 6 before him since he shoots so badly. BUT...his wife wanted to be nice and bought him a used Springfield stainless loaded target. I was never a 1911 guy til I shot that thing, it is awesome. Of course I think she paid around a grand used. I still don't have a nice 1911 due to being poor.

Yeah I know they are.. I just cant bring myself to justify the expense for it and the price of ammo is another joy kill.

I thought about that too. I know my brother like's 1911's, well in theory he does, he's never owned or shot one, but he does want one.

So are there any good 9mm 1911's for under $800 new out there?
