The stock magazines for the G36 hold 6 rounds. If your magazines have extensions I would either get new + power Wolff magazine springs or just use stock magazines for the gun and your problems will probably be resolved.
I bought a used G36 off calguns before and when I looked on Glocktalk to see if it was one of the model numbers affected in the past recall I discovered it was. I had a newer G36 as well, and detail stripped both guns and compared every part. All the parts were identical with the exception of the magazines.
I realized the older magazines were a little different from the newer ones and the newer followers have a notch cut out to give more room for the slide stop lever. The gun did have problems with the old mags but functioned fine with the newer style magazines.
My guess is that your problems are caused by the magazine extensions and not the gun. If it were me, I would just purchase a few new Glock 36 mags and try them out. The stock magazines give you a full grip and have a place for your pinky finger to sit. The G36 is considered a subcompact but in reality, with the stock magazines, it's the same size as the midsize compact models with the exception of the width.
