Let me start by saying, I usually don't like these types of threads; however they always bring out minute details that wouldn't otherwise be discussed. So I am starting one.
I traded a good chunk of my collection to obtain a motorcycle, primarily because the seller gave me a hell of a trade value for guns that made it a no-brainer for me. Now I have to buy another gun. My short list includes a Sig p228, an HK USP9, and the S&W M&P9. The smith and the HK are readily available to me locally for relatively similar pricing. The Sig would be in the ball park, but I would a- have to find one and b-most likely have to make 2 lengthy trips to get it.
I have had a p229 and p220 and have shot the p226 enough to know I like Sig in general. The grip, feel, quality, etc are all top notch. I have shot the HK UPS 45 back to back with my p220 and found that while the Sig felt better in my hand, the HK shot more accurately (at that time and place). It was almost shocking how much better I shot with the HK at that session.
I have always wanted a M&P 9. It feels right in my hand, and I like the slide design.
I value the full height serrations on all of these options, which is one thing I did not like about the p229 and really did not like about the CZ SP-01 that I had. So I would get another 220 or a 226 or 228 before getting another 229 unless it was one of the newer Elite or Enhanced models, but those are likely not in my price range right now.
NOw, I fully understand that the trigger systems/operating systems are different in all three. They all fit my liking and I really don't have a preference at this time. I do like the idea of a C/L and decocking capability of the HK, but I am not opposed to any of them.
What say the crowd?
