    USP9, P228/229, M&P9???

Let me start by saying, I usually don't like these types of threads; however they always bring out minute details that wouldn't otherwise be discussed. So I am starting one.

I traded a good chunk of my collection to obtain a motorcycle, primarily because the seller gave me a hell of a trade value for guns that made it a no-brainer for me. Now I have to buy another gun. My short list includes a Sig p228, an HK USP9, and the S&W M&P9. The smith and the HK are readily available to me locally for relatively similar pricing. The Sig would be in the ball park, but I would a- have to find one and b-most likely have to make 2 lengthy trips to get it.

I have had a p229 and p220 and have shot the p226 enough to know I like Sig in general. The grip, feel, quality, etc are all top notch. I have shot the HK UPS 45 back to back with my p220 and found that while the Sig felt better in my hand, the HK shot more accurately (at that time and place). It was almost shocking how much better I shot with the HK at that session.

I have always wanted a M&P 9. It feels right in my hand, and I like the slide design.

I value the full height serrations on all of these options, which is one thing I did not like about the p229 and really did not like about the CZ SP-01 that I had. So I would get another 220 or a 226 or 228 before getting another 229 unless it was one of the newer Elite or Enhanced models, but those are likely not in my price range right now.

NOw, I fully understand that the trigger systems/operating systems are different in all three. They all fit my liking and I really don't have a preference at this time. I do like the idea of a C/L and decocking capability of the HK, but I am not opposed to any of them.

    What say the crowd?

I am leaning towards the HK---the full-size USP is a very good pistol---the smaller P2000 is even better! Just my two cents...

Since you already have a 229 I'd pass on the 228 unless you really just want a 228. I've never really cared for the USP line of handguns. They feel top heavy and bulky to me. Kind of like a super nice hi-point. I really think they're over rated. They shoot great and are reliable and everything but so are so many others.

Just realized you said you had a 229. In that case I'd be leaning toward the 228. The M&P is a really nice polymer, but the other guns are all metal and European. In a different class. I like shooting the M&P, up I like shooting XD's and Glocks more.

So I guess I'd lean more towards the Sig. They're a nice piece of German engineering and since you already know you like them, the 228 is a great little pistol. My neighbor is in the navy and his issue pistol is a 228. I have a German one in the safe but it rarely sees daylight. I just bought it because of all the good things I read about online. It's nice, but I shoot my G19 and revolvers when I go shooting usually.

                New production, M&P or HK.

I'm a fan of the HK, Sig, and M&P. But of the 3, I'd say you couldn't go wrong with another Sig.

They're all good, but if I ever had to get rid of all my guns, the H&K would be the last to go. LOVE my USP!

I've got a USP 45 and a Sig 220. When I go shooting, the Sig stays in the safe. For me, there's no contest. HK hands down.

I will have another 220 and 228 one day. The USP and MnP are readily available to me.

Can anyone compare the SP2022 vs the USP? I've had the 2022 and loved it. I still don't know why I sold it. The USP seems like a similar platform.

I'm not a huge H&K guy, but they make a good pistol. I'd say P228, but you already have a P229, so your not missing much really.

I havent had to much trigger time or chances to hold the M&P, I'm waiting to see how they play out before I just buy one. I'd recommend the USP then.

If you have ever shot a 1911 the usp9 is the way to go. I believe that if john browning were alive today the pistol he would build now would be the USP series. Finest polymer pistol made and i own 5 glocks.
