    Steel Framed Colt's Commander?

Looking to buy a Commander and ran into a nice price but it has a steel frame with no "Combat" marking on the slide. The seller advertised it as a late 90's production Colt Commander.
Are all steel framed models supposed to be marked Combat or not?

Steel frames are Commanders. Aluminum frames are Combat Commanders, aka Lightweight Commander. Brain fart edit....

I thought it was the reverse. So lightweight and combat designate the alloy frames. Thanks.

i think you might have it reversed there. The original Commanders were alloy. Then Colt released the all steel version named "Combat Commander". At this time, they renamed the alloy framed one "lightweight commander"

so Commander and Lightweight Commander = aluminum alloy frame
            Combat Commander = steel frame

Ok that makes sense. The slide markings are:
Series 80 on the right side,
                  Colt's Commander Model
.45 Automatic Caliber (next to a rampant horse) on the left.

mine's a combat commander 04091U. steel frame with an undercut triggerguard.

love the undercut trigger guards on some colt's. all 5 of my colt 1911's have the undercut triggerguard.

The new roll mark 1991a1 Commanders are steel. They left out the "Combat" in the moniker. They're not currently making any alloy framed Commanders.

                          Buy it.

Great guns to shoot and carry.

Next to the CCO it's my favorite Colt 1911.
