Looks like a S&W 686 6-1/2" barrel. Nice looking piece. Not enough info for age or price...

Its an L frame pre-lock smith 686-??? Value around 600-750 depending on what comes with it.

Can't tell from the picture if the grips are conversion round to square butt or if it has an open backstrap and is square butt.
Some of the eary 686's were square butt, but at some point S&W started to use the round butt for all of their revolvers.

So I am guessing an early no dash 686 or 686-1 if it was square butt.

I think OP is going by the pic.

It is a 6 inch 686. The grips appear to be factory so it should be square butt. That would mean it is a 686-3 or earlier. If you swing out the cylinder you will see the model and dash number.

The longer barrels are less desirable, in CA it might fetch $550-$600, if it has the original box, tools and papers maybe $50-$75 more. Prices are quite a bit lower in free states but pre-lock S&W pull a premium here due to the limited supply (roster).

A very nice gun, would be great for range and HD. I love my 4 inch, very accurate and versatile.

I bought my no-dash 4" on Calguns for $500. I would say that you shouldn't pay more than $550-600 for a used one.

Paid $600 for the same pristine condition 686 no dash here...off roster is a sellers markets and pre lock smiths are desirable!

It has the firing pin on the hammer, which is cool. So it has to be an early one, a no dash or a dash-1.

Dash 5 and beyond were MIM and round butt. Prior were square butt (except for LH and specific others), so that could be anything up to dash 4.

Any way you slice it, it's a fine roscoe.
