    IFT Off Roster Guns

    So,

I've read that you can do IFT of Off Roster handguns but they still require a FFL. A friend of mine says that if I go to my dads state and He IFTs it to me there and I bring it back. Skipping the Shipping across state lines part that i would not have to go through a FFL. Is this true?

    Thanks

residency is required for the one receiving the firearm. Sorry, you gotta have it shipped. Then it's an FFL transfer, which means the FFL isn't capped on fees like with a PPT.

Tell your friend to join Cal Guns and get educated.

This is one of the more common missunderstanding of the law, folks think since a family transfer can be done in Cali without a FFL, it must be teh same if one party lives out of state, even DOJ may tell you it's not necessary to use a FFL. but they are concearned with state law, and this is a requirement to meet federal law., even if your dad brought the gun to Cali, it stills needs to be transfered through a FFL.

Both family members CA residents = roster exempt, fill out form file with DOJ pay the fee and no FFL required, HSC required.
One family member not a CA resident = roster exempt, but must go through CA FFL, wait ten days and pay DROS fee, HSC or exemption from HSC required.
