    Trigger pressure for defense

I am in the process of purchasing a Nighthawk Predator that's trigger is set to 2.5 pounds.

If I were to want to use it for defense/carry I would have to have the trigger pressure increased. Do I have to go all the way back up to 5 lbs, or is there an acceptable number that is lower than that?

    Thanks

3.5-4lbs is ideal for a combat gun for me. My FNP40 in DA/SA is also professionally tuned to 4lbs SA no creep.

My Baer TRS is about 3.5-4lbs and its perfect. That's my magic number.

The 2.5lb on your Predator is awesome for target shooting tho. My buddy has a NH 10-8 and a NH Predator, the 10-8 is a more suitable defense gun with its 4lb trigger, but the Predator is easier to shoot paper with due to the short trigger.

Is this a used gun? I don't think any of the semi-custom shops regularly ships out 1911s with a 2.5# trigger unless the customer specifies it. If it's new, contact Nighthawk before they build your gun, otherwise you're going to have to buy new parts for the trigger. You can make a heavier trigger lighter, but not vice versa.

Yes, it is a used gun and the seller informed me that it has a 2.5 pound trigger. If correct the gun would fire under it's own weight. While I would like to shoot the light trigger, I want all my guns to be defense ready so I will send it back to Nighthawk for resetting. I was just curious if it should be reset back to the standard 5 pounds, or if I could go a little lower and still be safe.

If you have a 2.5 lb trigger it's easy to increase the pull by adjusting the sear and trigger spring tabs. I don't advise a trigger pull less than 4 lbs for a defensive pistol. When you have adrenalin surging through your body you dont want a hair trigger.

Not less than 4lbs for defense. My personal preference for a defensive handgun is 4.5lbs.

I like 4.5lb trigger as well, but anything between 4.5 and 5.5 works fine for me.
