I concur, looks like some of the paint or coating chipped or flaked off. How does it shoot?

I agree looks to be chipping of the finish not the crown!

That looks like outgassing where the grooves are.. It look likes the gas has burned away some of the finish from the barrel..

          For sure it's not paint.

Also, what was posted above isn't quite right. It's not that lands and grooves are physically changing the direction or cutting into the bullet. The lands and grooves do already do a pretty good job of grabbing and gripping the bullet (hence ballistics tests done by police) it's that the gas is not evenly sealed behind the bullet as it leaves the gun. As the bullet passes the damaged portion of the crown, the gas prematurely escapes, causing the bullet to be "pushed" at an angle unknown to you... That's the main fear with damaged crowns and why it effects your accuracy..

Thats what you're seeing at your barrel. The gas is escaping through the 'groove' (lowered portion) of the barrel as the bullet passes. Ideally you would want this to be even throughout the diameter of your barrel..

Sig is generally pretty good with QC (crosses your fingers).. If it's accurate and shoots to POA, then there's not much to worry about..

Thats how it looks to me! Shoot her and see how she does..... If there is a problem go from there!

Show it to your local gunsmith if you are not sure---he can fix it easy if needed.

I got a new P226 Navy in Dec, and noticed the same exact problem after I took it home. Location is same as yours, mostly spread out on the top half of the barrel. There was also a chip on the rear sights. Hoping it is just a problem with the finish, but haven't had the time to go to the range to test it out yet.
