M&P 9 Apex tactical trigger question.

So ive been scratching my head over this for a while now and i cant decide if $180 for the Apex Tactical forward set sear kit is worth it....or save $60 and buy the Ram kit and a competition kit together. I dont need a 1911 style trigger because i have a 1911 for this reason. But I do want something a little lighter and smoother (not mushy).

Anyone have any advice or recommendations?

I have a APEX DCAEK, and if the DCAEK is similar to the APEX AEK, then the AEK and the forward set sear kit are two very different things.

The forward set sear really is something else, complete change of the M&P's trigger and it's worth every penny. My APEX forward set sear breaks around 4.5lb's, however it feels lighter since the pull is so smooth.

Personally, I would have the RAM installed with the forward set sear.

Would having the APEX upgrade void the S&W warranty on the gun?

I think it voids the warranty on things that relate to the parts changed. For example, changing the barrel voids the warranty on barrel related issues only according to a past email I saw.

Don't take my word for it though. Try emailing them if you want to be sure.

I have both a FSS and their CAEK in a pair of 9mm Pros. Both are good but are like compairing apples and oranges.

Will your gun EVER be used in competition?

If you will use it in competition I might not get the current FSS with replacement trigger. I have it and run it in IDPA's ESP division. It is USPSA Production and IDPA SSP illegal. For me it is not an issue because I have 2 9mm's the other is setup with the CAEK which is USPSA production and SSP legal.

As far as feel and function. The CAEK can be softer and smother. On my CAEK I had to lighten the trigger safery torsion. If you are looking for sub 3lb. the trigger safety torsion is over that. So the trigger safety notch would catch the frame before the trigger notch cleared the frame. I also trim down the trigger safety notch so I can remove all that takeup and keep the trigger safety intact. I like this trigger more than the FSS. But what I have discribed while production and SSP legal it is not a drop in kit.

For Drop in I prefer the FSS is better than the DCAEK. With a lilttle smithing the DCAEK is better.

Keep your stock parts and swap them back in if you ever need to send it back.
