Transporting AR Pistols in CA Question

So I'm familiar with what the law (CA penal code section 12025) states with regards to transporting handguns in CA (must be unloaded in a locked case or locked in a trunk but not in a locking glove box), and transporting rifles in CA (just needing to be unloaded but not needing to be in a locked container). My question is being that an AR pistol is would be in fact considered a pistol would having an Gun Vault AR MagVault or an AR Life Jacket on the AR pistol and the pistol being inside of a range bag with my other AR's be acceptable means transportation or is the only way to do it would be having a locking Pelican type case for the AR pistol? I have an SUV so putting it in a locked truck is not an option I have. I've seen a couple treads where people have AR pistols in what looks like basic rifle range bags but I don't know the particulars to that (maybe they have a car with a trunk) so I want to be with-in the law. Thanks in advance for any help.

    Thanks again,
    Fred R.

If you can lock the range bag - a lock through the zippers, and a zipper that won't separate with a yank, to allow access even though locked - that would be OK.

Neither the magvault nor the lifejacket are 'containers', so don't meet the requirements.

Frozen in 2015, it is falling out of date and I can no longer edit the content. But much of it is still good!

Thanks, I figured that was going to be the answer... just wanted to see if anyone out there had any experiance with AR pistols and those locking devices being ok. Probably going to just get a smaller pelican case to carry both the AR pistol and my XD to the range.

      Thanks again,
