funny, I just posted these pics for another gun forum on monday. Someone asked for pics of commander vs officer's size.

Using a Glock 19 as reference, here's how the different sizes compare.

    g19 vs full size
The gun profile doesn't exactly line up with the 1911, but in trying to center as much as possible here is what I see. The slide on the full sized 1911 is longer by about an inch. The grip on the full size 1911 is longer by about 3/4 of an inch. The extended beavertail of the 1911 sticks out about half an inch longer.

    g19 vs commander
slightly less than 1/2" longer on the commander 1911 than the g19 in the same three dimensions above (slide length, grip length, and beavertail length)

    g19 vs officer
almost the same size between the officer and the g19. slide length and grip length are about the same. The extended beavertail is about 1/2" longer on the officer sized 1911.

actually the pic above is not a officer, but more of a CCO - a commander slide on a officer frame. A true officer would be about 1/4-1/2" shorter on the slide.

Comparing all at the same time

and since I had them all out, the other aspect to think about -- weight

Unloaded Weight with one empty magazine
    g19 - 1.48 lbs
    1911 officer's size - 2.28 lbs
    1911 cmmdr size - 2.48 lbs
    1911 full size - 2.52 lbs

    Hope this info helps!

Between the two I would recommend a commander.

Overall I would say why not a full size?

I'm a small person and I don't feel like I gain much from carrying an officer model as opposed to even a full size. IWB it makes absolutely no difference for me at 3 or 4 o'clock. If you OWB you might have issues with it projecting below a jacket.

Over the years, I have found the Commander to be far more reliable than the Officer types---they just seem to run better. In fact, I prefer the Commander over the full-size as well---the extra 3/4" of slide just doesn't seem to do much.
