    FN M1910 maintenance

My friend inherited an FN 1910 but does not have much experience with firearms. I am trying to get it in shooting condition for him but want to make sure it doesn't blow up in my hands when it comes time to shoot it. I've found some break-down videos on youtube and it looks like it should be pretty easy to clean up. The slide was real stiff and it looked like it probably went a long time without being shot.

Is there anything I should do to it before firing it (besides a good cleaning/oiling)?
e.g. should I replace the recoil spring, try to dissassemble and clean the magazines, etc.

Also, should I be concerned about using modern ammunition in it? I'm not talking about a real hot SD load but just your typical plinking round.

I don't have much experience with handguns (I have rifles) so any advice I can get would be helpful.
    Thanks!
