    RUGER LCR

What are your thoughts on this pistol? Looked at one today and felt real nice, want to get one as a CCW carry for summer months. Who has shot one or owned one? opinions please.

I want one, also; it's gotten very good reviews, so I'll be trolling this thread . . .

Its a great CCW revolver. Will it replace a 642/442? Well its lighter, and apparently out of box has a smoother trigger. If its a CCW piece, the 642 and LCR are as good as it gets honestly. It's not a huge price difference though. You can get away with carrying a 642 for summer months to. I'm preferring to get a 642 before an LCR (I've shot the 642 alot), but I'm totally open to the LCR. Very neat revolver.

I was shopping for a compact carry piece for sometime and finally last month picked up the LCR in .357Mag. I'm delighted with the choice! The design is excellent -- it combines the power of the .357 in a surprisingly controllable compact revolver. The trigger is the best out-of-the-box I've ever felts. I'm mostly a S&W guy and I tried to convince myself to go with the Airlite or Bodyguard, but the LCR fits my hand, feels like a gun instead of a toy, and as such will get serious range time whereas the others I considered wouldn't get my light of day.

I went with the .357 because I wanted the stronger frame to allow it to routine eat .38+Ps without showing wear, because I thought the 3.5 add'l ounces would help tame the recoil, and because I wanted the option to shoot full mags. All three turned out to be well founded. The gun is very well built. Shooting .38s and .38+Ps is effortless, and with the excellent Hogue Tamer grips it manages full mags reasonably painlessly (don't get me wrong, they are a handful but MUCH better than I had expected - so much so that I'm carrying it with .357s).

The .38 version gives you the option of laser grips, a nice add-on. I think the CTC grips (if you buy them separately) would make the .357s unmanageable. Today I ordered the XS trintium front sight - the factor black ramp makes target acquisition a bit slow and the XS ($60 on Amazon) gets great reviews.

This is such a great gun that I'm probably going to get one for my daughter, who's heading off to Pittsburg for college in March. She tried my last week and was a natrual with it.

I have about 250 rounds through mine, chambered in .38+p. Nifty little gun indeed. I use it as a pocket carry while I'm at home (DeSantis pocket holster). Because of the light weight though, it is pretty darn snappy... so much so that I can only shoot about 30-40 rounds at a time before the hand starts getting sore. Keep that in mind, especially if you're thinking about the .357, and especially if it's something that you're going to play with a lot. The trigger is really nice and smooth... I can group shots at about 3.5 to 4 inches at 7-10 yards on a good day - not bad for me, especially with a revolver.

Bottom line, a high-value, very unique snubby. S&W has followed suit with their version, and I'm sure many others will too.

Good reviews so far... I handled all of them at turners today and really liked the feel of the ruger. I am going to go with the 38, dont really feel the need for a 357 in such a short barrel, a 38 plus P will be plenty IMO .

Keep the feedback coming, may pull the trigger on one tomorrow

              Fixed it for yah .

I've shot one and it felt very nice and smooth in my hands, unlike the stock 442 I was shooting (with an Apex trigger, the 442 is much nicer to shoot IMO). Great gun.

I've shot the 642 and have an LCR. I liked the feel of the trigger better than the 642 and the grip fit my hand better. It makes a great CCW firearm as it carries well in a pocket holster or in an IWB holster. I have other larger handguns on my permit, but 90% of the time I end up with the LCR.

For the difference in price, opt for the LCR .357 magnum.

I have one and I practice with .38spl. CC with magnum loads.

I owned two 642's and shot my friends LCR 38sp several times for comparison and I preferred the recoil and trigger of the 642. Recoil felt less to me in the 642. I think both are good and the differences could be a similar debate as Glock vs XD.

Please try one before you buy. I had an LCR that I put about 150 rounds through and promptly sold. I really wanted to like it - very well made, lightweight, excellent trigger pull for a DA only revolver. However, I couldn't hit the broadside of a barn with it with anything other than FWC target loads, and I consider myself a better than average shot. After 50 rounds of standard ammo (not even +P) my hand felt like hamburger. For me, the gun was just too light. Everyone else I handed it too experienced the same thing.

I've owned and/or shot several .38 snubbies, and the nicest one I've shot was an old S&W Model 36 Chief's Special.
                        Slow justice is no justice.

I was shooting a Glock when shooting a Glock wasn't cool.

I got to shoot one recently. I did not like the idea before (no lighter than alloy, plastic, etc).

The trigger is smooth........like every other revolver I have spent 6 bucks and 15 minutes on.

I really do believe that Ruger created this gun for the people who believe plastic is better. The Graduate come true.

Yea I havent heard alot on the bodyguard though, I wonder if its gotten as many stars just not as much press?

I prefer the 642 myself, the LCR is light sure, but I just found it to light for hot .38's. I could make do though, at some point I'm sure I'll get one. 642 is pretty tried and true.

I find my LCR handles .38+Ps easily. .357 mags have a bite but aren't nearly as sharp as I had expected. I live my LCR.
