cz 75 9m or 40

I went to the local turners last week and looked at the cz75. I liked it and ended up purchasing one in 40 because they were out of 9mm. I go in today to buy some magazines for the 40 and I saw they had a nine. I asked the manager if I could change gun and all it would take is to restart the dros. He told me he would eat the dros and I would get a refund for thirty bucks because the nine is cheaper. I held the nine and then the forty and cant help but like the way the forty feels a little better and it has ambi safety. I know ammo is cheaper for the nine and waiting a few extra days is no big deal but I cant make up my mind. I shoot a few thousand rounds a year in my pistols and the price difference would grow as I owned the pistol. Any advice

It really depends on what you want. The CZ-75 was designed for 9mm and it works best with it. That being said, the .40 S&W will work nicely in the CZ. In CA, since we have mag laws, I personally choose .40. The ammunition is 20% more than 9mm on a good day.

Sort of seems like you answered your own question in a way. With ammo at maybe 1/3 the price according to a fella I spoke with today who owns a .40, it adds up big time! His wife said she's planning on going to 9mm, plus it's a little more manageable and still does the job well. I had just purchased a box of 9mm Feds for $11.47, but .40 ammo was much steeper. Her hubby has a .40 but he does Emergency Response/Search & Rescue & wanted to be compatible with local LEO's who carry .40 so didn't have the option.

I guess .40 does go bang a little harder but I didn't find I needed it as the CZ's can handle 9mm +P & 9mm NATO ammo. I believe an ambi safety is available to convert several of the CZ's depending on model. Might check on the one you're considering? I'm good with conventional so it's a moot point for me.

I picked up a .40 with the "If I'm only gonna have 10, I want some more punch" mindset, but now I want a 9 as well. Don't get me wrong, this thing has never choked and I would depend on it with 165 grain Golden Sabre's if I have to.

I really want the .22 Kadet conversion, but at around $400, I could buy an entire .22 (or even 9mm) pistol. Seems a bit high!

One drawback is that the Crimson Trace laser grips won't fit the .40, if it matters to you.

I opted for 9mm instead of .40 because the ammo is cheaper and it's just a range gun for me.

I would go with the nine for cheaper amo = more practice at the range. My first semi auto was in .40 cal and it was too snappy, now I only have 9mm and 45ACP

To confuse things, the 9mm 75B-SA has the same upswept beavertail as the .40 and has the ambi safety as well if you like that.

I chose the 40 over the 9. I don't really like the snappy feeling of the 9mm. The 40 seems to have more of a roll, like a 45. I'm just more accurate with the 40.

If (as noted above) you can only get a 10 round magazine, why carry smaller bullets? Reload, and you'll save money, if that's the concern.

Plus... if you get the 40, you can purchase a 9mm barrel to convert it down from EFK Firedragon. The wife almost got me one, but they're out of stock at present. I think they run around $180.

Regardless, since it's a CZ, it's going to be a hell of a shooter.

I would recomend the 40 and a conversion barrel back down to 9mm. However I would avoid EFK an get the barrel from someone else. I had to send a 1911 barrel back for replacement twice due to gross errors in the maching. I eventually told them to send me a conversion barrel for the CZ which is a little loose at the muzzle and shows pressure with pretty modest loads. But it has fed and fired without a hickup in the 40 frame using both TZ and EAA mags which are quite a bit cheaper than CZ mags. I also highly recomend the Kadet kit for them as source both cheap practice and fantastic reliability.

Wise choice! Now save up and get the Kadet kit and you should be real happy with that gun.
