Thinking of getting s&w m&p9? Chime in owners

So I got the handgun bug again, after looking around and reading the mp9
    Sounds pretty good.

So my question is for those who own it what are pros and cons if any

Just a little insight of feel, trigger and hows it compare to any other similar guns you may have shot or have.

    Thanks for any info.

I'm not an owner (thank god). I've shot several, and put more than a few rounds through them.

I just hate the grip on that thing. I hate that weird little trigger, and I can't get a good grouping no matter how hard I try.

I shoot every other gun better than MP's

It's just not for me, and I've given it more than one attempt to try and shoot well with it.

Oh, and I'm comparing it against XDs, Glocks, Beretta's, CZ's and 1911's (of 3 different makes).
Before there was Polymer there was Accuracy.

Thanks yeah I read they have a real gritty trigger and had other small issues.

Just getting info on all types of hand guns. Need to find a range with some guns to rent and try some out.

To my taste, the M&P is the best of the striker-fired, polymer-framed pistols out there; I like mine so much that I'm going to SSE a Pro model for competition use, here in CA.

Best grip angle, great low-bore axis, the interchangeable backstraps have forced everyone else into making that accomodation; even the trigger is just fine. You can make it better if you want, but no worse than anyone else's; certainly, mine was good to go, out of the box.

The take -down is lawyer approved, I'm sure.

        Cheers,

I have one and I really like it a lot. I love the grip. It's one of the most comfy grips I have ever felt. Accurecy is great and recoil is minimal.

I rented and shot a lot before I decided on the mp. Glocks (hate them for their grip angle and feel), berettas are nice but out of my budget and a bit heavy for me same goes with 1911's.

Yes the trigger is gritty but there are mods to fix it just like any other gun from polishing to complete replacement (I love my apex trigger). My suggestion is to go to your local range and rent as many as you can in the caliber you want to shoot then decide on what you want.

I have put a bit over 1200 rounds through it now and have had no problems at all, besides running out of ammo

I've got one, and it's awesome. Great ergos (for me), accurate, and been dead nuts reliable out of the 1000 or so rounds I put through it. Put an Apex FSS trigger kit in there, and I guarantee you will never find another striker-fired gun with a trigger as good as an Apex-equipped M&P.

The gun comes with 3 different backstraps. Did you try the other 2? My M&P is the more ergo friendly gun I've fired.

After renting the S&W M&P 9MM at the range, I've also got the bug for the S&W M&P 9MM. (My other handguns are a bunch of Glocks.) I like the fact that the field strip was as simple as the Glock. The grip was a little different but I'm anxiously waiting for the Talon grip for the S&W M&P. I didn't get a chance to try out the different size of grips so it will only get better. The trigger felt great but most people will complain about the reset on the S&W M&P trigger. I'm leaning towards the S&W M&P Pro Series as it has the lighter trigger and Novak sights. Most importantly, the gun was accurate and reliable!

I like my M&P40. I'm not a polymer guy. I prefer 1911s. I got rid of my Glock22 because I couldn't stand the ergo's. The grip is much more comfortable. The Beretta Storm is nice too, but the M&P just felt the best. Bought a used one here on the boards, took it out to the range, and the flat headed copper thingies go where I direct them to go.
Now I just need more mags.

One nitpick I have on my M&P (and maybe it's just mine) is that it has issues with reloaded brass. The chamber might be slightly smaller than usual, because once in a while a round will get jammed in the chamber, preventing the slide from closing all the way and the extractor from pulling the round back out. I have to hammer it out from the other side, but I can drop the same round into any of my other guns and it'll slide into those chambers just fine.

I purchased a M&P9 during the summer, and I have used it in a few handgun training and CCW. I actually like it more than my Glock 19/17. No problems with slide bite. I have the Ameriglo Bowie Tactical sights with the Y rear and G front. I also installed an APEX RAM and now when I shoot I can hear and feel the reset. As Soul Cal wrote, "the gun was accurate and reliable."

Just acquired an m&p 9c. This one is my first sub compact semi. I'm going to compare this to the others that I have tried (Sig P226-9, HK USP9, HK P2000-9, FNP9, XD9, XD45, Glock 19).

Cons: Heaviest trigger among the group. Longest trigger pull. Therefore, harder to get a consistent group. Perhaps it just me.

Pros: Nice looking pistol . Ergonomic grip with three interchangeable back straps. I like the grip angle unlike a Glock (subjective to end user). Made in the US. Good customer service unlike HK .

Most modern firearms are reliable, and therefore, I don't need to elaborate on it.

Only con is the dreadful stock trigger.

And the availability of them without waiting due to all the LE contracts they're winning.

I have the M&P 9 in full size and compact. Great guns! I was able to rent both before buying, they were the better fit for me at the time. And still like them a lot.

The trigger on my full size is not really gritty (several hundred rounds later), though my 9c is kinda gritty, it's fairly new.

Out of my handguns, the M&P series are the most comfortable to shoot. The 3 sizes of back straps on the M&P is a nice feature. I also have a couple Glocks and a couple of Sigs.....and I like them quite a bit too.

I picked mine up (M&P 40 4.25") for my first gun and compared it against the XD 9 4.25" yesterday.

I found my .40 recoil to be as manageable as the XD's 9mm recoil due to the high bore axis on the XD vs low on the M&P (Possibly from better grip too).
The grips are much better on the M&P but that's a personal thing. More time was definitely spent in making an ergo grip on the M&P though. Interchangeable backstraps are great.
The M&P looks much better than the XD IMO.
The trigger on the XD I used was much lighter and and overall nicer, but the break wasn't as crisp so I let off a few rounds earlier than expected. It was also a bit mushy/sticky which could of been due to over lubing.
M&P trigger is very heavy. Grittiness is there, but when actually shooting it, its not a factor.

Doing my first handgun purchase again I would stick with the M&P (Going with 9mm to save some cash on ammo) with a trigger job (Planning on doing the APEX sear/Carry spring kit in a few months when my birthday comes around). It will cost about $60 for this and bring the trigger pull to around 5.5lb.

Its gone through ~300 bullets of BVAC reloads, WWB, and Federal (About 100 each). 0 issues.
