Sig 228 and 229 magazines interchangeable?

I'm looking around trying to figure out if the 9mm Sig 228 MecGar mags work in the 229. I've seen quite a few places listing them as 228/229 so I think they're interchangeable.

Does anybody here have any experience with them? I recently picked up a 229 for my wife and I want to pick up some 15-round MecGar 228 mags if they'll work..... The Sig mags are only 13 round, and MecGar makes most of Sig's magazines anyway.

The 10 rounders I have are interchangeable, I don't see a reason the 13 or 15 rounders wouldn't be.

That's what I thought..... I only have 229 mags sitting here so I don't have anything to compare to..... I didn't want to get the 228 mags and have them not work. I have confirmed that they do interchange.

The 228 mags will work with a 9mm 229.

The 226 mags will work with a 229 as well.

P228 Mags in a P229 YES as The sig website sells them under the same part # to fit both the P228 and P229 link below.

But I know the P226 Mags wont fit and function in a P229 as the Mag necks down on the sides in the last top 1.5-1.750 inches.

SAS: you're comparing a 226 9mm mag against a 229 40/357 Sig mag. A 226 9mm mag should have no problems in a 228 or 229 9mm. Other than sticking out the bottom of the grip, I mean.

I can confirm this through personal experience as well.

OK I could be wrong here but I will test it out tomorrow AM.

The 20 Round Factory Sig mag will insert and lock into the mag well of my P229 but I had 9mm ammo in it at the moment and cant check out how ammo feeds and cycles with the the 15 or 20 round factory magazines.

I did purchase the P226 20 round factory magazines with the initial intention of using them in the p229 but at the moment never made the p229 9mm barrel purchase.

It should feed and cycle no problem.

Point of interest, the 226 10rd 9mm mags and the 228/229 10rd 9mm mags are the exact same body, just with different plastic bases.
