It has been pointed out to me that I need to sell a gun or two. We won't get into the "why" of this. But I tried to sell it to Turners and was told they couldn't buy it because it was 'off the roster'. It's a m610, which they don't make any longer, so (correct me if I am mistaken) S&W stopped paying for it and thus it fell off the roster, right? (I can't believe this state, but anyway...) So they can't sell it but I can, to any of you who may want it, right? I need to understand this a bit before I post the thread. The last time I did this, it made sense - we just went in, exchanged the money and did the paperwork, waited the 10 days (or was it 5?) and went home.

Yep, as long as its a Private Party Transfer (PPT) the roster does not apply. Have the buyer DROS it at an FFL, then its just the usual 10 day wait. Someone will correct me if im wrong, but i think thats it. -
I would guess that because it is off roster that they could only sell it to LE, if they bought it. Did you ask about consignment? I don't know if that would be different but I think I have seen them list off roster items for consignment. You on the other hand could PPT it to any qualified person.Comment

Consignment would be okay, perhaps Turner's has changed the policy, but it is fine. If the FFL buys an off roster, then it can only be sold to a LEO, since the market is not great going for LEO's only, they consign.
You can find a buyer and do the PPT at any dealer, it's up to you who pays for the DROS, but normally, it's the buyer who ante's up.Comment

Yes, the dealer does not want to buy a 'dead' handgun he cannot sell to a CA resident.
[He could do a single-action revolver conversion on your gun, but big shops won't do that, etc.]
However, just post it here in the For Sale forums and arrange with the buyer to meet for a PPT at an FFL.
You will have no problem selling a S&W 610 10mm revolver.
