    MP5 variants

I am wondering how certain MP5 variants are classified. Are they all considered rifles? Does an MP5K fall into a pistol category when talking paperwork?

I understand that they are for the most part illegal in CA minus the 22 versions but I am just trying to get some specifics.

    Thank you in advance.

    It depends...

    Mp5's AW weapons in california.

There are clones that are legal to own.

They come in two flavors that i know, pistol version with no buttstock and short barrel, and a rifle/carbine version with long shroud over the barrel to make it 30".

Check out atlantic firearms they had both last time i checked.

In terms of legality, pistol needs to be on list, and rifle must have bullet button? Or are there more stipulations than the basics?

The SP89 is the closest variant that I like. Oceanbob on this forum had one for sale that I found about about a year too late!

Please read the pistol AW chart that's on every page.

The magazine well is located outside the pistol grip, makes it an AW. Would have to have a bullet button attached and SSE for transfer.

This clone would be much more affordable:
