    Inside your barrel

What color does the inside of your gun barrel turn after about 300 rounds? Black, Brown, Black-Brownish? Just wondering, just need to cure my curiosity. Maybe I should not use CLP if it does not clean so good. Smith and Wesson has a low odor bore cleaner gel that I just bought today.
I guess I could always compare mine to my friends and families guns

Those are normal colors of carbon and copper. Just run a bore snake down there. When it wont clean with a snake, use something made for cleaning bores.

alright, cool. Maybe Tomorrow. I always clean them after I go shooting, but I guess CLP does not work as good as I hoped. I just noticed it tonight as I was looking my guns over. Sucks that I have been using CLP for so long and have not noticed this...

Well, my Hi-point lasted 12 years with CLP at least.

Run it down when the barrel is warm/hot also, works better in my experience.

Mine turns black from the soot of the burnt powder, and if I don't brush it after that many rounds it'll start to show very mild signs of copper fouling, which is really easy to remove with the right solvents.

And yes, Breakfree CLP is a pretty bad bore cleaner, I only use it to wipe the soot off of the parts themselves, but I always use Hoppes #9, or Birchwood Casey bore cleaning solution to dissolve the tougher carbon and copper fouling inside the bore. Also helps a lot to use a brass brush on it - gets it really clean.

Some enterprising, daring young soul really should come out with a Hoppe's #9 deodorant or after shave. I bet it would sell to a few guys, at least once. It's a wonderful aroma, but it turns wives off instantly. The one drawback.

HAHA! Yeah my wife has Cystic Fibrosis and the first time I used Hoppes 9 (even in my garage) the smell just affects her really bad! Me too actually; it gives me a headache.

But, I do admit it cleans really well. Hopefully this S&W bore cleaner works good.

What kind of gun? I don't clean my pistol barrels until at least 500 rounds. If i'm shooting lead I'll clean it after a couple hundred. No reason to baby it unless its a target gun.

As an aside, I recently tried Hopes Elite after about 200 rounds through my Beretta. I was really disappointed. Lots of copper fouling was left. I had to run the brush back through with the #9 solvent. I guess I'll stick with tried-and-true.
