Buying a 1911 frame? Is this possible?

Ok so I've scraped the idea of getting a Heritage revolver for now and gone back to my original idea of getting a 22 pistol.

Thought's were Sig Mosquito or GSG 1911.

However I was thinking I have a Kimber 22lr conversion kit for my 1911. Can I legally buy a 1911 frame and have it built and then use the conversion kit and then I would have be a functioning 22lr 1911? Is this possible? Or is the price of doing this going to far exceed the cost of me just getting the GSG 1911?

If getting a 1911 frame is possible where do I go?

The problem is buying the frame. It can't be exempted unless it's built up completely beforehand.

The cost of a 1911 frame will be anywhere from the same as the GSG, to twice the price depending on what you can fine, and that's only IF you happen to find on for FTF transfer. Once you add in the internals and labor, you're looking at maybe 2+ times the prices of the GSG. At that point just buy the dedicated kimber.

So I'm better off just getting the GSG and use the conversion kit for a second 1911 if needed.

You can find frames via PPT on this forum in the classifieds, but it is kinda an expensive proposition. You can get most of the parts you need, including the ignition parts that are drop in. But the nicer beavertails require some dremel skills or a smith.

I don't know if the Kimber complete .22 is on the dreaded list. The GSG is.

I've been offered a couple of STI frames from the widow of an acquaintance, but don't know what they're worth. Anyone know?

I would be interested in the STI 2011 frames.

It's unlikely anyone will sell their 1911 frames for only $200.

Right and if one were able to get one at its retail price, a great value in a 1911 frame. STI frames are very well made.
