    Fluke shot yesterday

Yesterday morning I was at the range recapping on some fundamentals after taking most of the year off. I was just trying to keep everything in the black at 25 yards, nothing fancy just my standard drill, when I noticed I could clearly see my friends target offset from mine at 50 yards. I figured, what the heck! I was grouping pretty nice and told my friend I was going to send one down his top target's way. I aimed as steady as I could and squeezed off the shot. Everything felt well enough and I said to myself, "HOLY CRAP! I see a hole!" Gotta love the nice holes those .45 ACP wadcutters leave behind. Sure enough it landed 9 o'clock of the x in the ten ring. Not as bad as I thought I would do overall, either with luck or zen I'll take it

    Nice shot.
What gun are you using? My SA 1911 and my Ruger P345 both choke on wadcutters.

I was using a 2011 .45 built over at Bar-Sto. It is my best shooter, and most reliable pistol. It is the same as my avatar. There are some tricks to getting wadcutters to run in a 1911 such as relieving the hood and opening the chamber a little. FMJ feeds so smooth though I will be sticking with those as soon as I run out of my batch of wadcutters.

I was out on BLM land Sunday with a friend, like you shooting at 25 yards, and saw a line of four clays out at appx. 100 yards (some previous shooter had left). I leveled off with my Ruger Mark III and put a clip all around them-that p'ed me off so I took a a rest on the open door of the Jeep and broke four of them in four shots! With a breeze, slight uphill, and bulk Remington HPs. I'm just glad that I had a witness!

Wow, you can definitely tell which shot was yours! Looks like someone threw 30 billiard balls and 1 cannon ball through a wall!

Why is it so hard to believe that it can be done? I've shot what most folks would consider long-range shooting almost as long as I've been shooting handguns. It's not that I am a wondershot, I'm not. But I never had a tough time believing those occasional 4 or 5 dings out of 6 at 100 yards/meters were mine, and I saw nothing really remarkable about it. Keep it up, you'll love it. But on the other hand, there's nothing like trying to CONSISTENTLY level targets at extended range to humble a person.

I take my .22lr pistol out to 100 yards on occasion, and manage to land 9/10 in a 12" circle most of the time. My flinch is too bad with my Glock to be able to hit that far out, but at 50 yards I can put a few holes on paper if I concentrate.

If you really want to see some impressive long range pistol shooting, check out Hickok45 on YouTube sometime. He routinely takes pistols and shoots them at 230 yards:

Haha, gotta love it when you make a shot like that. Having a witness is the best part.

I took two clays out with my yugo sks while they were flying about 40 feet away a couple months ago. Glad I had witnesses for those shots.
