mini Sig P290 review ---

Hello !

Let me introduce you to my newest pocket pistol: the Sig P290.
I have to admit I was VERY skeptical about this purchase after reading countless negative reviews about the first batch that came out with "light strikes," and after some research I decided to take the plunge while visiting out of state. The Sig is now now on her way to Table Rock Arms in Oregon for Single Shot conversion for import to CA.

It took me a week to find one of these little pocket rockets while on my out of state trip and I ended up calling Sig direct to make sure the serial number I had was and "updated/new" gun. Basically they are very hush hush about the situation but they admit to making some trigger housing modification that brings the firearm back to 100% quality/reliability. After confirming my potential firearm purchase was an updated gun, I finally threw some water on that cash burning in my pocket and bought the gun. I had an opportunity to throw 200 pieces of lead downrange, without a single light strike. This gun is PERFECT !

I shot the 6rd magazine & extended magazine left hand, right hand, both, every combination and not a single malfunction. The DOA trigger has a VERY long trigger pull so as far as "sport shooting" is concerned this would not be my first choice, but for CCW this is an extremely comfortable firearm and I consider the long trigger pull to be an extra safety feature.

For all the trolls out there commenting on this pistol I have the following to say:

THIS GUN IS NOT THICK/FAT
SHE IS very ACCURATE
WORK ON YOUR DOA TRIGGER PULL, with good technique she is a joy to shoot.
p.s. did I mention how sexy she is in dual tone stainless?

For anyone considering this firearm, for sport, protection, and especially CCW, it is on top of my recommendation list. I have tried almost everything on the market. Sig definitely messed up the first batch, but the updated guns are going to be good for years.

Please feel free to ask any questions, I wish I had bought this gun sooner ! Now for the 10 day jail in commie kalifornia. hehe. After I break the 1000 round barrier I will write a more detailed review with better pics. Thanks for reading !!

Contrats. I was one mouse click away from getting a P290 from Top Gun Supply last March. I ended up going with a Khar PM9 (actually got two but sold one). Its been reliable enough to be the one I have been carrying the most the last several months. If I was going to change, I think I'd try a Nano. My opinion on that extended mag is that someone at Sig needs drug testing, but if it helps you shoot it more comfortably, rock on.

I'm a firm believer in snubbies and a few pistols for CCW but this pistol looks like a win that category. I've been hearing lately people are loving them.

I heard some issues of light primer strikes and apparently they worked it out or it was very minimal at most. Good buy OP. How much did it run you if you dont mind me asking? I mean for the SSE process itself. I haven't SSE'd a pistol before.

Thanks for the responses. I talked with Sig this morning and they were VERY polite over the phone which made my purchase an EASY decision.

If you are interested in SSE'ing your future "off roster" firearms purchase I recommend contacting Ryan @ Table Rock Arms (Oregon) direct. They are able to SSE most of the new firearms coming out and are very very patient & helpful. This is the first time working with them and definitely not the last. Normally a custom SSE kit is ~$100 but I am sure if you contact Ryan you can get a better deal.

Now I can't wait for Sigs new p938 @ SHOT '12

Aye there in Oregon? Ya lost me there. And yea, I talked with them on the phone on three different occasions and went through there custom shop to do the Sig Service Plan and Rebluing of my West German 226, absolutely best experience I've had with firearm customer service ever and I'd say top 3 on a phone in general.

Table Rock Arms is the only FFL that has the conversion for SSE on the Sig P290. I had to send the gun there first, then they are sending it to my FFL in CA already in SSE configuration.

I saw and handled the P290 several months ago when it hit the Tucson gun shops. As a long time SIG owner (I have five), at first I considered getting a P290 but was put off by a gritty long trigger pull which could be fixed.

I held off until the Beretta Nano became available here. I also bought a Kahr MK9.

In addition to the above two guns, I have a Glock 26 and a G36, so it's apparent I prefer a striker fired handgun.

I find nothing seriously wrong with the P290, but it's not for me.
