I wouldn't consider the Kahr guns to be a fun range toy. They are more utilitarian than anything (I own a CW9). I'd probably look at the Glock or CZ line of pistols. No experience with the XD's.

kahr for carry, XD for just about everything else. I've owned Kahr PM40 and MK9. I sold the PM40 in favor of the MK9. I sold my XD a few years ago to fund my AR-10 project a few years ago. Kahr aren't typically "fun" since I'm not a fan of DAO triggers (except for daily pocket carry). The trigger of the Kahr is very smooth though and the small pistol size makes it recoil similar to a 45.

I just bought an XD9 and I love it. Great feel and fun to shoot. I bought it because it was comfortable to hold and it seemed pretty accurate and I have heard they are reliable. Price was right too.

Fullsize XD or a XD-subcompact? The karh K9 is actually smaller than the XD-sub but fits the hand 10x better. I don't like the feel of the plastic Kahr's. They are sharp and don't feel any different than other poly pistols by different Mfg's. The all metal Kahrs are so different its night and day.

If you are looking for a cheap fullsize pistol either CZ, Glock or XD will fit the bill. I've shot all the XD sizes and I'm not really impressed with any of them. They all functioned 100% but they feel cheap to me. CZ makes the best bang-for-your-buck all metal pistol for sure. Just awesome to hold and shoot. I love my CZ.

if you're considering the xd, also look at the M&P9. Very similar and I was a little more accurate with the M&P9 4" vs. the XD 5". similar grip too if you use the larger M&P grip.

If you want something small and concealable, go with the Kahr, if you want something like bigger, has lots of aftermarket support, and is double stack, get the xd....even try out their sub compact. My XD9SC is my favorite polymer pistol!

Very happy with my XD 9 full size though the Kahr is a nice carry gun.

Own a Kahr PM9 - Great small gun but not fun to shoot.

Own XD 9SC (3" barrel), 9 Service (4" barrel) and a XD45 Tactical (5" barrel) - great guns and fun to shoot.

The XD45 was the last XD I bought and I really wish I would have gotten the M&P45 instead. My buddy just got one and I just love the way the M&P feels and shoots.

One other thing worth mentioning. I don't know about the M&P but on the XD's if you break an extractor you need to send the gun in to have it replaced. Springfield won't sell you the part unless you are a Springfield certified gunsmith (this could have changed since it's been a couple years since I had to go through this). They do cover it under warranty though.

XD especially with a powder river trigger kit

Also something to think about Kahr arms is run by Justin Moon ...son of the the crazy Rev. Sun Myung Moon who is the head of the Unification church ( cult much ? ) Also the ownership of kahr is all korean business conglomerates with ties to the unification church.

Personally , it prevents me from wanting to purchase a kahr. That being said, i also love my xd and I use it to teach as well as recommend it to many many new and old shooters.

Xd are great guns and fun to shoot. They are also inexpensive and readily available. Access to spare parts is good. I owned an XD and I wouldn't hesitate to get another.

I don't know about cult ties for the XD but it is made in Croatia. It was originally called the HS2000.

So it's not built in the US if that matters to anyone. It's not made by Springfield Armory it's made by a company called HS Produkt d.o.o. and licensed to Springfield to import and sell in the states.

See, before I bought my XD I went and shot both the XD and M&P9 and I wasn't as impressed with the M&P. I am sure it's a fine fun, and to each their own, but I just preferred the XD much more.

FUN!? -> 1911 @ 9mm nothing out the box beats that SAO trigger

Love the XD's, they are my go to for HD.
They are defensive pistols, so yes longer pre-travel & reset, but it does have a nice snap/break.
It can be made more fun with a trigger job (as with any gun).

Never really considered Khar, just windows shopped, and never went for one because of their price for polymer.

Oh icenix, upula loader is on sale tomorrow (13th) for $20 if you did not see that thread, and if you are in socal.
