I was hesitant to post this since it isn't a listed CA handgun, but since the SSE will be available soon enough here it is. This is my first range report, so if you want a really good review watch Hickok45's review. I managed to purchase mine through a hookup of a friend working at a local shop in TX.
I am a XD/XDM fanboy, I'll admit my bias upfront. The ergonomics and feel of this pistol like all the other XD/XDms I've handled before "just feels" right. I describe this to all who ask for pistol recommendations, if it doesn't feel right when you first pick it up, don't bother. If you've fired an XDM before, this pistol matches that feel. In comparison to an XD45 compact, I find the pull more crisp while still smooth. For my own preferences I'll get this and my other XD/XDMs modified with a combination of a Springer Precision kit and PRP kit, I like my trigger pull at 4lbs with a shorter reset. My accuracy is much improved which this will be a great LTC pistol. The trigger pull from DA is on the 7lb side. The grip is slightly shorter (estimate about 1/2") on the 3.8" than the 4" XD45 compact, which is also noted when a 10rd compact magazine is inserted. It does fit but I failed to remember to bring my 10rd to the range on this adventure, to ensure it feeds properly. It is nice that the magazine fits, although since it isn't flush I wouldn't be surprised to see small extension sleeves as seen with the 10rd full size XD magazines. I have medium to small hands and the grip fits perfectly. I would assess the 9rd magazine is in order to better compete with the Glock 30's compact size. I found the 3.8" barely noticeably different from the 4" in feel and weight. It handles just as I would hope it does with the extra match qualities that make XDMs so popular. I'll be moving to PRK soon, so if anyone is at Sac Valley or Dillman Range, I'd be happy to let you take this for a spin.
