Kahr CW9

I'm looking for a new 'no frills' defensive handgun that I can take to Frontsight and something that is more utilitarian than my other firearms.

I saw this little fella yesterday and fell in love with the way it felt. Any thoughts on it? I understand that the CW9 has standard rifling and not polygonal which actually appeals to me in regards to shooting lead.

I've read a mixed bag about the triggers on these. Evidently they are smooth, but have a long pull. I'm concerned a bit about the trigger reset on these as well...

Any thoughts?

I'd go shooting with it first before you decide to take it to a 2 or 4 day class. If that's the firearm you plan to use for a defensive situation then go for it. If you have other firearms that are your go to gun then I would take those instead. You want to train with what you'll use.

Its not a bad little pistol. It shoots well with good accuracy, the only compliant I have is that is doesn't always go into full battery on a fresh mag. You have to give it a slap on the back of the head. Once it has a round in the chamber it functions fine. This mostly happens with HD rounds round nose rounds not so much.

I have one and love it! I recommend following the break in period on all Kahrs, 200 rounds.

I own, carry and like the CW9, however I take a lot of classes during the year and would only take it as my NY back-up (2nd gun). I find the classes much more enjoyable using a striker fired (GLOCK or XD) type pistol.

I've owned many Kahr's - PM, CM, CW. My opinion is that they have the best DAO trigger on the majority of polymer frame handguns which lends to there accuracy. They are finicky about ammo. When breaking the gun in-don't use Remington UMC, Federal or other cheap, underpowered practice ammo which tends not do be powerful enough to cycle the slide and could lead to feeding or ejection issues early on.

Have one and need to break it in. As the other poster mentioned, I bring my Glock to class and use the CW9 for practice and eventually CCW.

I've been very happy with mine and it has replaced my S&W M642 as a default CCW. It has been flawless since before I completed the break-in 200 rounds. I practice with 115gr FMJ and it feeds 127gr and 124gr JHPs all day

I'm not sure about your pass experience, but the trigger is very much like a good revolver.

How suitable it is for a class at Frontsight would be dependent on how sensitive you are to muzzle flip. Much as I might not want to take a course there with a S&W J-frame, the polymer Kahr wouldn't be my first choice. I do have a friend who attended a 600 round course who had no issues shooting a steel framed Kahr (K9)

I found the CW9 to be one of the easiest guns for me to shoot accurately (love the trigger, sights and size). Maybe not what you would want to run 500 rounds through at the range, but would make a great CCW.

I find the Kahr line up to be best out of box handgun. Just a simple strip, clean and lube and go shooting. No buff n' polish necessary. Feeding ramps on the polygonal barrels are smooth as glass.

Of course you will pay for Kahr's attention to detail.

My little Kahr P-380 with Hornady CD ammo is my favorite pocket carry.

My CW9 is my primary carry also, goes boom everytime i pull the trigger, never had a single problem, ever.
Eats all types of ammo tossed at it from walmart cheap amo to reloads to JHP, every trigger pull = boom. Works the same whether clean or dirty

CW9 and Hornady Critical Defense combo here also
