    Colt 1911 Series 70 reproductions

Colt made (or still makes?) a reproduction of the series 70. I saw this for sale and it looks a little to clean (and low priced) to be an "original" series 70. Anyone know if Colt made a reproduction of the series 70 in nickel? Also if they did make a reproduction wouldn't it be ultrabright stainless, not nickel? Colt stopped nickel plate in '85 I read,

Thanks, I'll try it. The selling dealer is only showing one pic, no opposite side pics with serial #, that fact, the price, and it being for sale by a Ca FFL make me a little suspicious. I'll give them a call tomorrow, see if they'll give me the serial.

That's an excellent gun in the picture. If it had the larger roll mark I'd be interested in it myself.

The small roll mark tells us it's either a Colt reproduction or a series 70 from the late 70's early 80's.

Earlier series 70 Colts have the larger roll mark. I have a GC S70 from 74 and one from 76, both have the larger roll mark.

It could also be a reproduction that was sent to Colt's Custom shop maybe?

Thanks Colt-45, it sure is an eye catcher, if it dates from 70's or 80's, even as a reproduction, looks like darn good price especially for Ca (?). I swirled the phone number on bottom because these folks aren't on the sponsors list, didn't think CG would want me giving them free advertising. These folks are closed on Sundays so I'll give them a call tomorrow, I'm not even sure if I can afford it but I'm still very, very intrigued by that pup. Btw, those are some works of art you have there,

Too bad the picture is not clear, you could tell by the way the rollmarks are finished. The price is about correct for a series 70s. The grips are original to the late 70s pistols. The NRM comes w/o the Colt medallion. Just because its at a CA FFL doesn't mean it can be sold to a CA resident.

Tag is marked consignment I noticed, that would make it PPT FTF technically, or that's my understanding anyways. When you say "correct for a series 70" do you mean one along the lines of what Colt-45 has or a recent (2000's) reproduction?

LoL those are just picks I picked up from google images. Unfortunately, those guns aren't mine. I do have two Colt Gold Cup S70's though, similar roll mark.

Good luck with the gun, definitely worth it. The box it came with could also be another clue. If it came in a blue modern Colt box, and it's info is on the sticker it's definitely a reproduction.

Ahhhhhhhhhh, california dreamin' just like me , yah this Colt intrigues the hell outta me, if's it's "original" that's a good price according to what I've gathered. If it's a repro (recent), then, like you had mentioned, it must have been to Colt Custom (or somebody) because I can't find anything that shows Colt made the recent repro's in nickel. It's a beautiful piece of craftsman ship either way, I'll have the info on exactly what it is tomorrow, I'll post back my findings, goodnite to all....

Got an email from dealer this morning "It sold on Saturday. It was as posted a 70 Series gun (made in the 70's)" If that's so then it was one helluva clean 30 some odd years old Colt, the original ad showed nothing more than the pic I posted, it came with no box, papers, etc. Caveat emptor.

I've seen those on Gunbroker for under $1000.

If it were to come with oiriginal packaging it would be a great deal. Without papers, that would be better priced at around $1050ish.

The new reproductions have small roll marks.....at least the ones made in the last 3 years do.
