    Send it back to Smith and Wesson and let them refinish it in the proper finish.

      That would be my approach, although I don't know if anything can be done about the rounded sideplate edges. Perhaps it's just lighting but the cylinder flutes look soft and it has a different hue than the rest of the pistol.

      Regarding a "stainless" 28, while that doesn't exist there are a few factory made nickel plated 28s out there, I believe about 50. There are of course lots of aftermarket finished ones and hard chrome does a pretty good job of pasing for stainless, especially on a 28 with its "satin" finish and matte edges.

      Post 17 has a picture of an aftermarket refinished 28:

      I've happened upon a stainless S&W Model 28 in a dealer's showcase. Is this a particularly unusual revolver?

        I stand corrected.. we took it to the range and it is in fact blued. Not sure how I overlooked that one but regardless of what color it is you got yourself a sweet firearm. Congrats

          Those were made for the Florida Highway Patrol. They also had 5" barrels.
