HD compact/sub compact for the girlfriend

Long story short, recently my pretty expensive mt. Bike was stolen from off my front porch and it added the worries my girlfriend already had about the area we just moved into. We moved within a mile of the San Ysidro border crossing, the area we live in is nice but the surrounding areas not so much.

I taught her how to shoot, but my Beretta 92fs is it too big for her hands (she is 5'4"). She found the sig p290 and liked it for its size and it comes with a laser but its not on the "list" and it was suggested to look into other guns in the compact/sub size.

I tried talking her into a wheel gun for its reliabilty but she doesn't like them. She's set on a 9mm semi.

Ruger SR9c. good for small hands, not a heavy recoil for a compact.

I would have her try your Beretta some more. Little girl soldiers are using them.

My wife likes her M&P9 (I like it too) and it has adjustable backstraps for smaller hands. My wife uses the medium sized grip and she is 5'7".

Rent before you buy if you can.

If it's purely for home protection, go compact instead of subcompact. Easier to shoot, generally not as snappy.

I'd go with a single stack 9mm like Sig P6 or a Kahr CW9, for instance.

i rented a full size m&p9 right after i bought my beretta and fell in love with it so much so i had a brief second thinking i made the wrong purchase. but i showed th m&p9 to my girl and she loved it too. the compact fit her like a glove, but of course when she wants to purchase one every store here in san diego says they wont have them in stock for months while S&W fills their contracts

For HD, full size that fits her hand. No real reason to go compact if you're not going to carry and there are plenty of full-sizes that fit small hands. As a general rule, most compacts and especially sub-compacts are more difficult to shoot than their full-sized counter-parts unless one just fits you a lot better than the other. I think the M&P is a very nice platform for this.

People always think a smaller gun is easier to shoot. Not true. Given the same caliber, the smaller gun typically will typically be more violent.

As he said above, find a thin full size gun.

i tell her that that a full size gun has more mass and weight to absorb the recoil than a compact but once her mind is set on something it cant be shaken, and right now shes set on a compact!

Glock 19, Springfield XD9 Service, S&W M&P9. These should all fit her needs and preferences.

Dark horses to consider are the SiG P239 and the H&K P2000 LEM.

Springfield XD fits nicely in my girly little hand. I'm a guy mind you, I just have tiny hands :/

If you go that route, I'd recommend picking up the pistol gear slide stop for it however, as it makes it easier to unlock or lock the slide with my stubby thumbs.

it depends how much you love her, I'd get her a p229 in 9mm. SA/DA , no external safety, very reliable, easy to operate and fits in smaller hands. Just costs a lot.

another good cheap alernative is SP2022 in 9mm with smaller grip (usually comes with medium and small)

If its gotta be a compact I would go S&W M&P9 Compact or Ruger SR9C.
