I just bought a 92fs and have bought birchwood casey gun scrubber. Does any one know if this cleaner will harm the finish at all?

Gunscrubber is just like brake cleaner, it degreases down to the bare metal but it doesn't hurt the metal finish. Make sure you lube the gun properly. A completely degreased Beretta won't function.
BTW, buy electric motor cleaner from auto parts stores. It does the same thing and cost less.GCC

If you are worried, Gunscrubber has a "safe for synthetic" line.
I do know that the gold accent on my Bersa 380 didn't like the regular Gunscrubber.
On areas like the sights/slide I'll spray cleaner onto a cloth and wipe down to make sure over spray does not get onto the painted sight or the plastic light pipes found in some sights.Send Lawyers, Guns and Money - On second thought, hold the Lawyers.Comment

Good call, i've been using "Smith&Wesson Heavy Duty Bore Cleaner" for a while to clean the bores of my AR's until people told me it was chlorinated brake cleaner and i can buy brake cleaner at a autoparts store or walmart for $3. The s&w stuff was $14. It did clean well and dried fast. It also dries stuff out really good so you needed to lube it well afterwords.Gunscrubber is just like brake cleaner, it degreases down to the bare metal but it doesn't hurt the metal finish. I also have been trying to find what works well on pistols. I just got ballistol on alot of peoples recommendations and im not even 75% impressed. I was kinda expecting something like hoppes #9 which would clean everything out with one or two wipes of a patch, without oiling afterword....i was wrong. The stuff doesnt clean 1/2 as good as hoppes (takes more patches) and i still end up oiling the slides on my pistols and wiping them off with a microfiber towel and applying tetra slide grease to the slide rails/channels and working it in with a q-tip.
Just a side note, i dont recommend brake cleaner on pistols, it just seems too harsh.

They rebrand stuff and charge you an arm & a leg. Podlock is the same thing you can buy at t-nuts.com for $7 to $10. I guess the price went up since 10 years ago...Last edited by huckberry668; 12-03-2011, 6:31 PM.GCC

A couple of years ago - there were some complaints on a few forums about gun scrbber effecting the bruniton finish. I did use it in the 1990s on a 92 and never had an issue.
Now, I just use Breakfree CLP now. But, I do remember reading this.
As pointed out - if you degrease the gun completely, you will have to really oil it well. A Beretta 92 needs oil.Comment

It is non-chlorinated brake cleaner that you want for guns not chlorinated. I have used it for years with no problems on polymer and steel. I would not use carb cleaner on a gun as it is very strong and could remove some finishes or damage polymer.Comment
