    XD9 - 3 More Nights.....Question

Monday night I get my new XD9. Why 10 days and not like 7, lol.

So, I have guns, but they were guns that my dad bought, so this is the first gun I have purchased myself.

What should I expect on Monday night. Are they just going to hand over my gun and I sign some paperwork, or what?

Also, for those of you that have this gun, or one like it, what do you clean yours with? Is there a specific kit you recommend?

Since I am picking it up at a range, should I shoot it, or should I clean it first?

    Thanks

just a safety demonstration, then its all yours. get some Winchester white box from wall mart and shoot that damn thing. i use a bore snake and hoppies #9 to clean ans slip 2000 ewg for the slide, and gun butter for the springs. but that's just me every one uses different oil and grease for their fire arm and claims it to be the best. oh and just a fyi if you have a 10 rd mag +1 you are going to have to push up on the mag to diss engage it, its just how the xd rolls its ment to drop freely empty not full.I have a xd9 service going to get a xdm 45c next year with my tax money.

Congrats on your new xd9!! I shoot Federal's from Wal-Mart 100 rounds for $19.98 is a great deal. As for lubing it before shooting your new firearm, I always do. I like to take out the nasty factory lube and lube it up with Frog Lube. I use Frog Lube for all my firearms, and had no problems at all.

The demo is easy. I think it goes,
          1. Drop the mag
          2. Check the chamber
          3. Load a snap cap into the mag
          4. Insert mag & rack
          5. Pull back the slide to check the round
          6. Safety on/off
          7. Drop mag
          8. Clear the snap cap and lock the slide back
I'm pretty sure thats about it

Of my four handguns, I've been asked to do the safety demo twice. The other two times, nothing. Just signed my name on the DROS paperwork and walked out.

Congrats on the XD! That's what I picked up today. In case you didn't get the three free mag promo, Springfield A. has 9mm 10round mags on sale now for 20$.

                I did, but thanks.

On another note: Crap, I am not good when put on the spot, lol. I blank sometimes, so I hope I do the safety demonstration correctly, lol.

They will demonstrate the safety procedure, which will be unlocking, loading, unloading, and locking the gun. I hope you can do those things if you're going to a be a gun owner.

And you should clean it first before firing, there could be grease and gunk and anti-rust stuff in there, and there's a slim chance there could be some particles from a machining operation. At the very least, swab out the barrel. You can buy a general cleaning kit in a blue box for $30.

I took delivery of my first 9mm, an XD9 5" at 4:40pm, and went directly to the range. They cleaned it out for me and then I put 400 rounds through it over about 3.5 hours. Then I took it home and took it almost completely apart, cleaned and lubed everything, and put it all back together. I love to know my guns inside and out.

lol, yeah, I know how to do those things, lol.

I would like to shoot it, but I am not going to join a range yet, and the place I am buying it is a range, but it's far from my home and isn't the one I will be joining. It would be nice to get some rounds through it the night I pick it up, but doubt it's going to happen.

Hmmm I never did a demo on the guns I got. I just show them my military ID when I asked about purchasing one, but I did take the guns apart when I first checked them out to check their condition. Other than that, I just signed my name and went home with my gun.
It does mention a demo in the HGS book but I has forgotten about it.

If you need to know about your gun you can go on You Tube and check someone out taking it apart or read an online manual. Most of the stuff is basic and common for all guns with some minor differences.

My XD went straight to the range which was a few miles away from the store and I put around 100 rds through it with nothing more then checking the barrel to make sure it was clear, had no problems and it shot great. Taking it out Sunday again.
I had purchase a case of Red line ammo (500 rds $99) to shoot, has anyone notice how dirty that ammo is? It just seemed way more dirty then the regular boxed ammo.

If you can't shoot it that night, get some snap caps, which are good to have anyway, and you can dry fire to your heart's content all night long.

Oh, and in 400 rounds of reloads on day one, I had 100% reliability, no problems at all. Awesome.

When you're picking up some WWB from Wally World, just grab a can of RemOil while you're at it. I pretty much just use that and a bore snake for basic quick cleaning.

My xd9 has a couple K through it smooth like butter with absolutely no problems. I'd guess you can expect the same.

                              Congrats on the new piece!
