I bought a lightly used Gen 4 Model 17 from a Calguns member here, and retrieved it from the dealer waiting period a couple of days ago. Took it to the range yesterday and put 50 rounds downrange at the 15 yard section. There were no malfunctions whatsoever, and no empties ejected at my head. The previous owner had installed the recoil spring assembly upgrade.
Recoil feels fine to me despite the relative light weight. I really, really like the Gen 4 mag release. You don't have to fumble around, and the mags drop freely. I also like the slide release. Good ergonomics, at least for me.
The attached picture of the target is my second target, and final 20 rounds, all Rem. 115gr. JHP factory loads. Handheld, but hands resting on the shooting bench, 15 yards. I'm just an average-skilled pistol shot, but I think this pistol has some very good inherent accuracy.
I'm not at all used to the Glock or the Glock trigger. I owned a G19 once but have lost whatever trigger control I adopted to with it. This one has the standard 5.5 lb trigger per the hard case label. This trigger may not be entirely broken in, but I'm not sure about that. It is definitely two stage, which doesn't bother me, and the second stage is where you feel the 5.5 lbs or whatever the exact pull on this one is. I'm going try the other grip panels and see how that works. It's nice to have the options.
My first target (not pictured), 30 rounds, using Rem. 115gr FMJ factory loads, was embarrassing the way I was pulling shots low and left due to poor trigger control, as a right hander. I managed to improve my trigger control a little bit on the final 20 rounds, as shown in the picture.
I used all three brand new Glock mags I just bought from the Glock Store and they ran fine.
Today I sent it back to Georgia for the dot connector and ejector upgrades, and for factory installed Trijicon night sights. I might as well make it as good as it can be. I was thinking about switching to their 4.5 lb trigger option, but I'm going to see how the dot connector upgrade feels. I don't even know if they are one and the same.?
Glock requires Fedex, overnight only (I think the latter is a Fedex requirement for firearms). Shipping firearms to/from Pelosifornia is always a mystery and potentially frustrating. I put the pistol in the hard case, put a wire tie around the handle, sealed it in a Fedex box, and declared it to the Fedex clerk at their main center in my area. No problems, no questions asked. $76 for insurance, delivery, signature required at delivery. You can't take firearms to your local Fedex store. You have to go to one of their centers. It's supposed to be delivered to the Glock factory sometime Monday. I wanted to get it in there before they get a bunch of business after Xmas from new purchases, if they do.
I can't wait to get it back with the mods and head back to the range.
