    Glock Beavertail

Well I recently installed a Gripforce Beavertail on my Glock 23
I went to the range today and ran some VERY warm .40 loads

I quickly realized that the beavertail had an achilles tendon
the texture that is suppose to help improve your ability to grip did exactly the opposite
the texturing absolutely chewed up the web of my hand
texturing can be seen in this photograph

I am trying to think up some solutions to my problem
I was thinking of removing all the texturing with sandpaper and then coating the exterior of the beavertail in a coating of some sort
I love the texturing on the ERGO grip and would love to be able to reproduce that on the beavertail

I was thinking for coating solutions something along the lines of the following
    plasti dip
    truck bed rubberized coating

I am open to suggestions on how the fix the problem

Here is a picture of the beavertail installed on my 23

Thank you for your help and suggestions

It is common for people to mod these. I have seen pics of ones with all the ribs removed, although this does weaken the beavertail so it becomes springy. People have said that wasn't an issue for them.

I also remember reading somewhere that Grip Force themselves modified someone's adapter by just taking the ribs down partway and flattening them, which was said to have made a big difference.

If you look at the damage on your hand it will guide you in what changes to make. Just smoothing the surface and flattening the ribs should help.

I have one on my G26. I took the ribs down about 2/3 in most areas and completely right where the web of my hand hits, but I did it more to get my grip as high as possible than anything else.

Oh, and I found the stuff to respond well to a carving knife if you have one.

      Stupid question time...

May I ask the point of a beavertail adaptor for Glocks?

Are you guys with extra large hands getting slide bite? Or?

Solution to problem that doesn't exist.
No. I've never been bitten by a Glock

^ Tiny hands. Personally I get Glock slide rubbing with small frame Glocks. It doesn't really bother me but I do have a slightly red runway on my hand when I'm finished shooting a bunch of rounds through my G19. Even a sixteenth of an inch more would prevent this but it's not really that much of a bother to me. It's not like some 1911's I've seen that have made the shooter bleed.

This is how I have mine setup:

Luckily the texture doesn't affect my hand at all.

That is one part of it. The other is that it helps with follow-up shots.

Partially agree.. there really isn't a problem with the grip for most.. but my personal experiences have been positive. I initially got it with a lot of skepticism, but I figure at $20, it was worth at least a try. It definitely helps me with follow-up shops. I say I have medium to largish hands with long palms.. if that makes any sense.. but these make my Glock have less movement during shots. I later read a review of it from Todd on pistol-training.com about this and glad it wasn't just some placebo effect. I'm sure everyone's mileage may vary.

I have large hands and put one on my 21. It allows me to get a better grip on the gun. I stippled my Glock and the beavertail and it really helps with the grip.

Dude, you must have massive hands! The G21 has the biggest grip on the planet.

They should have designed it with a smooth surface to begin with. I'd say this product is a failure.

Not even sure how you get slide bite with a glock. I don't think some of you are holding it right.

I have a set of Smartlock thumb rest on mine and love it. It gives me the 1911 feel of resting the thumb on the safety and applying downward pressure. Control while firing is greatly improved. Had some LEO friends try it and they fell in love too and added to their duty pistols. I'd highly recommend it for those who like the feel of a 1911. Also, I cut off the right side rest as I don't use it.

Get the Duty-M. The older Duty rests are too high and feel funny like shooting a 1911 with the safety on/up.

That is one ugly contraption. Take it off and go shoot a real 1911
