    1911 Assembly Help

I disassembled and assembled the 1911 but now, for some reason, it's really hard to move the slide and isn't smooth like before (with hammer cocked). As if it's sandy / grainy feeling. I followed the instructions word for word but what have I done wrong?

Also my girly fingers hurt like hell because of the recoil spring.

Take it apart and start over. It's difficult to access the issue online.

Field strip only. And I did assemble / reassemble a couple times, same problem persists.

I'm guessing your spring guide is not on the spring right. If you can't figure it out I'll take a look at it, depending where you are

Check the pin on the barrel link. Sometimes those can back out.

as long as the slide is fully on the frame, the pin should be fine, I have a few guns with pins I haven't felt like peening, and they float just fine

Something is not right, take apart from start and go over all parts to look for any edges that should not rub. If you don't have any friends familiar with the 1911 who can show you, take to nearest reliable gun store.

Disassemble, remove the barrel and guide rod. Replace the slide and see if it moves freely.

                              A) Ascertain recoil spring install is right.

                              B) Make sure Barrel link is forward, slide stop in the hole of the barrel link.

                              C) Make sure to push IN first the plunger pin before moving the slide stop in its proper position, the plunger pin then interphasing the tiny notch of the slide stop.

                              D) Retract slide with one hand (careful since you are doing it againts the strong recoil spring), while PROPERLY screwing in the Second Long portion of the 2 piece guide rod-------that is the stock part of the SA TRP. BE SURE YOU ARE ENGAGING THE PROPER THREADS!

                              E) Reinstall the recoil spring plug.

                              Good Luck!
