Is CZ a great pistol WITHOUT trigger work?

I see many threads discussing the merits of the various CZ pistols. In those same threads, I see comments like: "and after a trigger job, you'll have a great gun."

Do the CZ pistols really NEED trigger work to be great? Some posts make it sound like a CZ won't function properly WITHOUT some trigger work. How great can a gun be if it NEEDs a visit to the gun smith right out of the box?

So, CZ fans, are CZs great, or do they need a trigger job to be great?

I have a CZ-75 "single action only" variant. My observations:

    1) The gun functions flawlessly, ate everything (from miwall reloads to some winchester slivertip 9mm hollowpoints) I fed it from minute 1.

    2) The trigger is reaaaly nice - but you'll never confuse it for a 1911 trigger. It has the slightest bit of grittiness but overall the trigger is so good (and the ergonomics of the CZ-75 are so good...) that shooting the gun very well right away is pretty easy.

The trigger on my SP-01 is the best I've ever fired. I converted two glock owners after they shot my SP-01.

Oh, and it's the stock trigger

Mine (SAO version) shoots sooo nicely. Yes, the trigger has grit. I'm not sure if that will eventually disappear, but to get rid of it faster I think you have to clean up some parts.

My SP-01 was pretty gritty during the take up when I first got it, but the break was always clean. Combine the clean break with the best ergonomics of any handgun out there, and I shot my best groups ever - right out of the box. Now that I'm about 600 rounds into it, the grit has disappeared and it is a very clean pull the whole way through. Absolutely my best shooting handgun.

Good to go without any trigger work or other tinkering needed based on experience with a CZ-75B 9mm. Great guns.

SP-01 and CZ75 DA/SA both have a little camming to the hammer just before they break. It's not bad, but you can see the hammer moving backward slightly before it releases. The trigger job from CZCustom took care of that and reduced my SA pull to 3lb 4oz.

              Never fired a CZ75 SA so I don't know.

The CZ SA has a pretty nice trigger.

All the DA/SA models really benifit from a spring change, the SA part of the pull is ok how is, but the DA is pretty hard. Compared to a Sig, Berreta, etc, its about the same.
Its really just one of those customizations. Sorta like how everyone ( for the most part ) gets New parts / trigger jobs on 1911s. They dont need it, but it makes it a more pleasurable to shoot gun.

They are great guns. Keep in mid that they are combat pistols and are set up as such according to CZ's opinion on what that means to them.

Everyone has their own take on what they want/like in gun and I think that is what you are seeing in all of these posts.

Once you have tried a CZ with a trigger job it becomes hard to shoot one without a trigger job but that DOESN'T mean they are unusable if left alone but this is just my opinion.

The weight of a CZ makes them easy to shoot and the ergonomics make them feel great in the hand.

My first gun was a .40 CZ75b (still have it), the trigger became very nice with lots of shooting and even more dry firing.

The CZ TS has an excellent trigger right out of the box. Factory set to a crisp 2 pounds with no overtravel, no take up and very short reset.

Trigger is nice IMO. The DA pull takes some rounds to smooth out but its nice. I can never wait for the round count so I do my own trigger work. Mine also has a over-travel screw in the trigger for a very clean stop. Trued up the sear and hammer and now its very crisp. I'd compare it to a nice 1911 trigger job.

If the OP is talking about the standard DA/SA of the 75b, then the answer is: "No, the gun doesn't NEED a trigger job for it to function." Don't recall any posts saying that, either. What is said, however, is that it does indeed benefit greatly from one.

The out of box trigger pull on every DA/SA 75b variant I've tried was gritty (moreso than most other stock pistols I've tried) and had the aforementioned camming. They do, however, smooth out quite a bit with use. My friend's 75b has nothing but thousands of rounds through it, and the pull is really quite smooth (although the camming is probably still evident).

Thing is, the 75bs are such nice and accurate guns people often think of them like target pistols, only they don't have light crisp triggers like target pistols often do. Hence the trigger job recommendations.

The camming will never go away without a recut hammer.

This is true. I think people confuse smoothness with crispness. While the trigger pull will smoothen over time with use, the crisp break (non-camming hammer) and short reset are ONLY achievable with a trigger job.
