M&P shortage ?

It seems these days the M&P series are getting harder to find. We've only had 3 in our shop and they sold quickly. The first 2 came from our distributor. both were 9mm one full size and one compact...the last one we saw was a used .45acp and I've been on the look out ever since. Only our distributor never has any in.

I did hear from the distributor the reason for the shortage was because of S&W getting a contract with a certain over seas police and was going to be making 9mm only ....so pretty much .45acp and .40sw will be hard to find. Not sure if this is really true..has anyone else notice the shortage or have you found a place that always has them in stock. ?

I see a lot of forum talk about how there are contracts outside of the country, but I like cold hard facts.

Had a chance to take a m&p armorers course and the rep said that within a 4-6 weeks they would be ramping up production for the civilian market. I got a full size 40 on order i cant wait to get my hands on.

This is the only one I could find.

There are legitimate sources who have verified that these overseas contracts are legit and the huge contract from the Feds are a priority right now.

Funny how that works. US is still dominated by Austrian guns, .mil is an italian design, lots of trials and hub bub about HK rifles, yet it seems more and more other countries are picking up US made firearms / ammunition.

Seems like M&P 45 mags are low on supply as well. If someone has them in stock they're asking $45-$50 for them.

i had a FS 9mm on order since may, finally get to pick it up tomorrow. I have seen a couple 45s and 40s at other stores. All the places I checked are in San Diego.

How'd you go about getting into an armorer's course?

It seems like M&Ps have been in short supply since the beginning of the summer (at least that was when I started paying attention at getting more than one M&P). I was surprised they had the configuration I wanted on Bud's last week.

I've always said I like my M&P .45 more than my HK USP, Beretta PX4 and Sig... it's even been posted...

lol thats the same time i noticed it too i wanted one bad. we had a 9mm one in the shop but i was in my 30 day hold from buying a taurus pt92. The day I went out of town for my daughters birthday my dads sends me a text saying some guy bought it ...i was like NOOOOO!! lol i should've put money down on it to hold it....as luck would have it i looked last friday and our distributor got 22 of them in ! so we picked up 3 ...i'm putting money down on one this time lol.

Quite a few M&P's at GOG. Unfortunately, none are on list models.
There is even a M&P9c 9mm with, qty of 99+ available.

My rep told me S&W does have contracts outside of the USA but they also have a contract with either LAPD or LASD (can't remember which one he said) for 6,000 M&P9s. So, the shortage is accurate because they have decreased the amount of guns released to other substantially.

My rep was able to somehow get a couple of M&P9s to me late last week and one sold immediately. I do have one left in stock but he said there probably won't be any more for weeks.
