    Hardchrome, blue or ?

My gunsmith is about done with my next custom Springfield 1911 so I'm deciding on a finish. I'm leaning toward hardchrome for this one, but would like some opinions.

Here she was before (next to my stainless SA before either was done):

Better pics will follow on completion, but here she is now "in the white" (bare steel):

Custom bevel all surfaces, French boarder, ball cuts, high grip cut, 25lpi hand checker front strap and msh, weld-on and blended magwell, round butt, Kart barrel, comp bushing, deep dish crown barrel

Here's the serrated flat top and gold bead front site:

    Better view of the magwell:

    Still to be done:
New thumb safeties, 10-8 rear site, slide stop cut and bevel, STI composite trigger, C&S ignition components, set trigger to 2lbs, metal finish

This isn't going to be a daily carry gun, just for range use and competition. So after seeing the direction this build is going, what finish would you choose? Oh, and no two tones since my other SA is already two tone.
I voted against Obama before it was cool.

It looks just plain beastly and the extra heft up front does help manage recoil a bit better. Plus, an angel told me that when God called JMB to heaven it was to build him a full rail 1911!

how about NP3? I'm considering having my carry gun done in NP3, it's currently blue which I love

While I've only shot a few rounds with a borrowed gun in NP3, it's worth noting that it can be slippery. Hardchrome or Ionbond or some two tone combination of those.

Armorkote is another option. THats what the TRP's are finished with. Its a rugged finish.

Blue, flats polished rounded surfaces matte. Thats such a beautiful gun you can go wrong either way.

              Hardchrome.
I have a S&W mod 15 revolver that sees moderate use, looks like new after 22 years of happy shooting.

Wears like a champ, cleans up easy and is shiney without causing blindness in the sun.

I'd go hard chrome, but only if black chrome wasn't an option.

My other SA has ArmoryKote on the slide and I like it, but if I do a dark finish I was thinking more traditional type bluing.

What do you think about Ionbond versus NP3? I have not held an NP3 finished gun in my hand so not sure about the sheen it has. Is it more matte than Ionbond?

Ionbond can be applied matte or on polished flats etc. in a look that's close to blued. IIRC Hard Hat waitlist is longer than Black T even these days.

Hard chrome is not as rust resistant as everyone believe. I've seen one hard chromed - used for competition. Guy didn't wipe it down after he sweat on it all day and left it in the case. Gun was rusting and some of the hard chrome pealed the next day.

Hard chrome has microscopic cracks. These vary from specimen to specimen. So, 5 guys may never rust a hard chrome gun, and 2 might. It just depends. Hard chrome IS better than some finishes, but not as good as some thing. And, if it does rust, you have to have it unplated to fix it.

CCR refinishing has ceraplate - cheaper and not as slippery as NP3, but almost the same stuff. That's what I'd do if I were you
