Detonics pocket 9

I have a chance to buy one at a good price, but need some other info. it feels very heavy for a pocket gun, will this reduce the felt recoil to say 380 levels? Ive found conflicting reports, one says kicks like a mule and another says great little pocket gun. Ive had both wrists broken and cant take recoil like I used to. my sons XD40 compact is painful to shoot but his full size Baretta is not. I have a Government model in 9mm, and can shoot it with no pain, but its not much for a concieled carry. Will the extra weight make this gun comfortable enough to shoot or should I keep looking?

You want to look for weight in the muzzle end of the gun. If its just a fat grip/frame, its not going to help much.

It's physics, man. Maybe a bit larger gun in 9mm will fit the bill.

Very uncomfortable to shoot. I had one that I bet I didn't put 25 rounds through. Just stuck it in the back of the safe and there it sat. Sold it a couple years ago.

With your wrist, I'd keep looking.

The Detonics Pocket 9 is a straight blow-back pistol, the only thing holding the action closed at ignition is the recoil spring and the mass of the slide (that's why it's heavy). It also has some reliability issues due to the interior dimensions of the chamber that are used to delay opening.

It's value is mostly as a collector piece for Detonics and Miami Vice fans...Sonny carried one in an ankle holster

Glock 26 has very little recoil for a sub compact. My LCP kicks like a mule.

The Pocket-Nine was an earlier attempt to make a small 9mm---not very successful, only in production for a short time---heavy little gun, straight blow-back if I remember right---there are much better small 9s today starting with the Kahr PM/CM9 series. I would leave it to collectors.

I passed on it. some collector will be happy. it didnt look like it had been carried much. Im still looking for a 380 sized gun. posibly a walther PPKS clone. Thanks all. DR
