    colt 1911

I found online a colt commander 04012xse stainless with a 4.25in.barrel for $821. I all ready own a rock river GI and would like to get a better 1911. So heres the deal, while lurking on other gun sites I gleamed that modern colt 1911s are not held in high regard and that colt cust. service is horrible. While I hope I'm smart enough not to beleve every thing on the internet, the percentage of negitive posts raised a red flag. The whole thing had a taurus feel to it. So is the modern colt 1911 a problematic money waste pos or a proud american icon? And if anybody wants a copy of Ted Nugents book God, guns and rock and roll for free pm me. I'll try to mail it out this week end First one gets it.

I'm not a fan of the XSE series but Colt is good to go. They are no better or worse than any of the other 1911 makers, though I've personally had not come across a really bad Colt. And my experience isn't with just a handful of them.

I'm thinking he means Rock Island. RRA doesn't make a GI model.

          Opinion of Colts

I bought my first Colt 1911 about 16 years ago, and now have 6 Colt 1911s and 2 Colt revolvers. I have shot them quite a bit, and haven't had any significant problems requiring me to use Colt customer service, so I can't comment on that. I have had some routine gunsmithing done to a couple of them by a local gunsmith.

I have a very good opinion of the Colt company and products based on this experience. I would buy more of them, and I like the fact that Colt is a US company.

Here is the most recent Colt I bought. It has worked perfectly through about 600 rounds so far.
