It was a good day today, I picked up a new carpet cleaner for the wife and picked up myself a RIA 1911a1 FS. I was eyeballing a springfield mil-spec for 500 bucks that a pawn shop was selling as "new" I was about ready to snag it because it was frickin pristine with absolutely no blemishes. However, one look down the barrel and I saw a dang ring of rust about 1 inch from the muzzle and about an inch of length, barrel was toast. They denied that the redish orange colored foreign material was rust and wouldn't budge on the price. This RIA fits in my hand nicely but I'm wondering if a 100 dollar barrel added in wouldn't have been still a good deal on the springfield.

I'm personally biased towards the Springfield but the RIA is definitely a good grab!
Where is this pawn shop?

The barrel was toast? Sure it wasn't gelled cosmoline? When spraye it leaks down to the side the gun is lying on a hardens. Looks just like rust. I would think you would have seen rust elsewhere and not just isolated to a small patch inside the barrel.Comment
