What are your opinions of the Glock 17 and the Beretta M9? I know both are extremely reliable but I want to hear some thoughts on why one may be better than the other or if its just preference.

It's really a matter of preferance
Glocks have the consistant trigger pull for every shot, but some people(me) just cant get used to it.
A 92/M9 can shoot single action, which to me gives it a better trigger pull than a Glock, but a lot of people(not me) have trouble with the size of the grip.
Personally, I would pass on both and get a Browning Hi-powerYes, I am an electrical engineer.

You should shoot both and then decide for yourself. See how each one feels in your hands. I'm biased towards all-metal guns so I would go with the Beretta but you really can't go wrong with either of them. Both are reliable and accurate.

Have both, love both.
Two different type of shots. I say try both and go from there.
Main difference is steel, glocks are half polymer, if you're going to be carrying get a 17. Capacities are around the same.

What they all said. ^ Allot of opinions can come from this question. But if it matters to you... Glock= no external safety. Beretta=external ambi safety that de-cocks the hammer. This is to ensure IT WILL NOT FIRE if you are learning/teaching untill finger discipline is mastered.,and our leaders allow themselves to be spoon fed with foreign BS and have forgotten that the great majority of americans do not live in secluded gated comunities with private security 24/7 like they do, while the rest of us are subject to defending ourselves without Police escorts whenever we need it. they dont realize we are subject to different dangers than they are, and we must have and keep the right do defend ourselves!Comment

Shot both and confirmed that some people buy glocks because of what others say.
Shot the glock and it was not as accurate or comfy as others stated. Ended up getting 3 other guns whilst waiting for Beretta M9A1s to be more available. In the meantime my friend got a M9 Commercial and that thing is so smooth and accurate. Not even night and day. The grip was perfect (I run the large backstrap on my M&P 45).

IMHO, both have terrible ergonomics. However, both are decent pistols and Standard Magazine repair kits are in ample supply for both.
Glock 17
Consistent trigger pull.
No external safety.
Easy learning curve.
Low maintenance.
Berreta 92
DA/SA trigger.
Higher learning curve due to the DA/SA trigger and external safeties.
Slide mounted safeties.
Slightly higher maintenance.

I have several of both and both great guns... I haven't heard many Beretta 92s blowing up with factory ammo. I blew up a NIB G21 on the 12th round once. Do a search on Glock blowing up and see for yourself.
If you reload hardcast lead bullets, Beretta's conventional rifling is much better at handling lead bullets than Glock's hexagonal rifling. Plus Beretta 92 is just beatiful to look at.GCC

Not a big fan of the M9. However, it goes bang when I pull the trigger and generally hits what I'm aiming at. Having smaller hands its annoying to have to readjust my grip to drop a dang mag. I'm also fairly impressed with the durability that the M9's have shown during my time onboard a ship. The environment is highly corrosive at best and the M9s we had showed absolutely no corrosion and were stacked 8 to a box in a 50cal ammo can (and don't tell me our GMs actually cleaned them, because dropping them into a bucket of CLP does not constitute cleaning).sigpicComment

What are you going to be using it for. That factors too. One might be better for one purpose or another. For example, I could comfortably and effectively carry and conceal the 17 but it might be more difficult with the Beretta.Comment

I have shot both...and like each one for different reasons. Just up in the air which one to get...it would be used for target shooting.Comment
