SIG P226 MK 25??

Apparently SIG has introduced a newer version of the P226 Navy, now calling it the P226 MK25 Navy or something like that. I'm not even sure what it is, but I want it. I already own a P226 stainless but I'm getting a dangerous urge for this MK25.

Does anyone know for sure what's new about the MK25 compared to the previous "Navy"? Here's one story:

Be aware that this has a picatinny rail instead of the usual Sig hybrid rail that they use on their pistols.

Finding a holster that fits could be a pain in the rear as picatinny is wider then the usual rail. Leather holsters probably won't be an issue, but the kydex ones have pretty tight tolerances on that part of the gun.

The stuff they use to coat the internals is supposed to be nice if you use your pistol near salt water at all...

Asides from the MilID sticker on the side the internals are phosphated to resist corrosion like the Combat series. Outside of that, think its the same.

The MK25 might have night sights standard but the previous version might not have had them. I'm not sure about that.

So, now we have three potential changes: picatinny rail, phosphates internals, and maybe night sights. Those all seem good to me.

I don't understand why the new rail would be a holster problem.

geezus.. Sig Sauer marketing for you.. it's the same gun just a different rail.. this gun does nothing different for you than a standard P226 except that it leaves a bigger hole in your wallet.

German-made frame. Nice. My Navy came with the phosphate internals (as well as 3 phosphate coated mags). So that is not a change. Sig had stopped with the phosphate coat for a while, but started coating the internals again with the later production model Navy (according to the Sig rep I spoke with- from production year 2008 onwards). I had the Sig night sights installed on mine (previous version does not come with night sights). Hmmmm- might be worth it just to have one with the German-made frame. But not liking that sticker on the slide.

Spoke with Sig today and they said the pistol will be introduced at the SHOT show in Jan. Bad news, SIG submitted to DOJ and waiting for CA approval... 1-2 years before it's available here. Difference from the previous Navy is the new rail, bar code sticker on the side, German-made frame and it comes with the night sights.

Heh, a SIG where the whole gun wont rust except a small rectangle on the inside of the slide where the clamp holds the slide.

Does the bar code sticker come crooked stock from the factory? I like it but I like almost any Sig.

Thanks for the straight skinny, Sigshootr. I won't have to cough up some money for a year or so. But I'll still be tempted then. What could be better than the stainless P226 I already own? Maybe another P226.

I'd agree QC has slipped in recent years compared to others but they arent crap. I had a great experience with there custom shop and have tried 5-6 new p226's/220's and a 229 and they were fabulous and in fact have better triggers than the old ones had. The reset is still not as great as I'd like but I can live with it. 3 of those pistols were 2006/2007 and the other 3 or so were brand new 2010 or later. They are great pistols. Not one jam, stoppage or cosmetic defect. I dont like these newer thinner grips there using but I end up going hogue anyways, nothing beats the pebbled grips they make with non finger grooves.

I think the MK25 is a bit more of a marketing thing than anything though, especially if the Navy model comes with the phosphated internals already, unless that was only a short run of them.

Several of the the MK25 do have a UU serial indicating that it is made in the US.
