    Ownership legality question

Looked at the rules, looking for clarity.

I'm currently not a CA resident, but may become one in 6 months. I have an opportunity to buy a FNP tactical. If I move back to CA with it, can it be registered? If not, can it be if I remove the threaded barrel and replace it with a non-threaded one?

This particular model of the FNP is not on the CADOJ list. The "kept for sale" language is vague, and probably intentional... Does that include ownership? And ownership without intent to sell, ever?

The tactical will need an unthreaded barrel as a threaded pistol barrel = AW.
You will also need to comply with CA magazine laws (10 or less); you can keep the ones it came with but they must be broken down into "parts kits" while they are in CA.

You can buy any pistol you want in NV and bring it back to CA with you when you move as long as it doesn't qualify as an AW.

Ubermcoupe, z4 or 3? S54 e367 here. And I am aware of the other rules. Just not clear on this particular situation. Was a CA resident before.

Was S54. Nothing now since moving to NYC. Winter city roads aren't really conducive to cars in general here.
Maybe i'll pick up a E86 when I get back to CA, If I can manage to save anything as I procure more and more guns (and debt).

But your FNP Tac, that particular pistol would require an unthreaded barrel (essentially making a FNP-45) so it might not be worth it. You can swap the barrels and keep the threaded one, incase you take it out of state, or move to another free state.

The 15rd mags would not be allowed in the state; they'd have to be broken into parts. So you would need 10rds to shoot it here.

When you move to CA you can register any pistol you already own via the new resident form + $. You cannot register an AW or anything else that is banned (.50BMG for example).

SO you can register the FNPTac with a non-threaded barrel, if you decide to move back to CA. (you will simply put "FNP Tac, Serial#" and your done).

So I guess if the FNP Tac is a great price you should pick it up, would be my suggestion. Worry about getting a non-threaded/FNP barrel when/if you move to CA.

You will also get bonus points from me if its the FDE version (because I have a thing for GREEN guns and FDE is close enough)

Any AW? I was under the impression that any off-list is ok as long as they are compliant.

Slight clarification. Hi-cap mags are illegal for unauthorized (ie non-LEO) to import, maufacture, lend, give, buy, sell or offer for sale in CA. They are not illegal to possess and not illegal to shoot. Since he is coming into the state, you are correct, bringing in or assembling his mag here would be illegal. I just didn't want anyone to get the impression that all hi-cap mags in CA are illegal. I have guns with hi-cap mags that I bought before the hi-cap ban, and I can shoot them any time I wish.
He who exercises no forethought but makes light of his opponents is sure to be captured by them.

                Two different laws.

The Roster, the list of guns an FFL is allowed to sell to 'just anybody', does not apply to people moving into CA.

A pistol with a threaded barrel, on the other hand, will not be on the Roster -- because one can't get it tested and put on the Roster, because it would be an 'assault weapon'. Illegal to import 'assault weapons'.

See the handgun flowchart, question 16(a).

Alas, my flaw has been operating on several assumptions.

By AW I mean an AW as defined by CADOJ (on the Banned list or as defined by 'evil features')

An Off-List Lower is not an AW, just another rifle.

And Billy Bob is correct on the mags. I am assuming you don't already own +10 FNP mags.

                  Sorry for the confusion.

Oh sure, and there are jobs in those states just waiting for me to support my gun hobby... in addition to paying the bills. You guys must live in fantasy-land.
