Colt King Cobra Export Gun Question

Update! The guns do exist!! Per the seller, there were 100-125 guns not exported by Colt and left available to the bigger FFL's (seller was an FFL dealer now retired)


Although I have not seen this gun yet, my spy at a local gun shop says they purchased a Colt King Cobra, 4" stainless steel in 38 special only- not 357/38.

I can't seem to find anything on this gun. My spy insures me this is not a "Cobra" model or other Colt model; this is a King Cobra marked Colt for export to countries that could not import military caliber guns.

I know S&W did some 686/586 in 38 special for Brazilian sales.

Does anyone have any info on this gun, and the value of such?

sounds really cool. a standard 357 king cobra in regular stainless and in good condition seems to be fetching $500-800, id imagine the 38 only would be worth a bit less, unless it had some special military stampings or something.

They seem to have made a Python "Target Model" in 38 special, so I suspect it was certainly possible for a .38 King Cobra to exist.

billy bob, thanks for the info. I'm heading to the shop today to see this unicorn Colt along with a Detective Special supposedly with a serial # xx00001. Can't wait!

Pics are attached in the first thread. Any idea of the value of the Det. Special? Both guns are unfired if not unturned per the owner.

The det. Special will probably be $800+ as theyre hitting a premium right now, its a sellers market on colts right now.

I also posted the question on the Colt Forum hoping that Colt specific folks would chime in. I have bought and sold several very nice Colts but this one stumps me. I was in "awe" when I laid eyes on the Cobra, no turn line, still had the factory oil, a true collectable...

Still on the fence about the Detective Special. The Cobra is a no brainer.

Your story reminds me of my King Cobra that I found at local gun store. I spotted pair of Colts, a nickle Cobra .38 snub and a blue King Cobra .357 snub. I put nickle Cobra on layaway.
Couple days later I started seeing/researching articles about rare CCL King Cobra snubs.
Up till then I knew nothing on rarity of K/C snubs. Went back to gunshop and sure enough the CCL King Cobra was still there for me to buy at incredible price. Man, did I get lucky. You just never know what/when you'll find inside stores.
