I'm new to this forum and not sure where to post this, so here goes. I was looking at buying a S&W 629 deluxe with 6.5 barrel. I want a .44 mag with a medium to long barrel and that more modern revolver look, not the cowboy revolver. Is it a good choice or is there a better?

Both are fine choices. My S&W 629 is a 6" full lug with a plain cylinder, fine trigger.

I don't think I've EVER read a post saying the S&W 629 was a bad choice...

What kind of government do you guys got here? This is worse than California.

I have a 1981 Ruger Redhawk .44 magnum with a 7 1/2" barrel and I disagree that it is anything close to a boat anchor. I have no problem shooting the gun and have done so with one hand; both weak and strong hand. Perhaps you have small hands.

I am joking with you, but really, tho it is certainly heavier than my S&W Model 15 .38, it is not difficult in the least to shoot.Comment

Don't think they make a "deluxe" model. There is a "DX" which is the cream of the crop & usually commands a premium. A friend has a 5" DX & it is pretty fine.
If money's an object or you want to run Elmer Keith style gun bustin' handloads, nothing wrong with the Ruger except they're on the homely side. The Super Redhawk looks like it was put together by Soviet peasants after a bad wodka weekend.
I'd go for the S&W myself, but I am an unashamed fanboi.Last edited by Fishslayer; 11-19-2011, 3:32 PM."He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
