Anyone know of any manufacturers who make variants for lefties? Or anyone know what it takes to covert, if possible?

S&A makes an ambi mag release also...Comment

not sure? I am new to the 1911 thing...I will try to dig up some info on an ambi selector. I like the kimber desert warrior...is the A. Legal in Communist California? and B. able to have a ambi selector attached?
Subkor...what ever happened to that Kimber you were getting rid of?Comment

Desert Warrior is NOT on the DOJ list. Kimber made a Warrior II that is on the list. If you want the Desert Warrior look, you'll probably have to buy the Warrior II, remove "unnecessary safety" parts and get a paint job...Originally posted by HillBillynot sure? I would think the ergo's of the 1911 would be great for a lefty with an ambi safety - mag release is easily accessible and "slingshotting" the slide is common (if not recommended) ... any comments from lefty 1911 shooters?Comment

+1 on the ambi as all a lefty needs and +1 on the sling shot method. (for those who don't know, sling shot is when one loads a new magazine then pulls the slide back instead of using the slide release.)Originally posted by stevieAll you really need is an ambi thumb safety. Use your index/trigger finger for mag release and slide release (if you use it), i prefer to sling shot the slide.
My other half is a lefty and taught me to use the sling shot as well. This way under a stressful situation and with an unfamiliar gun, I can still operate. With slide releases in different locations for different guns, I may forget how. A good example is a Sig where the slide release lever and decocker lever are next to each other. If you are not familiar with a Sig, you may be using the decocker and thinking "oh shoot" when the slide wont release.Comment

A company called Randall made left handed M1911 pistols back in the 1980's. These were mirror images of the regular M1911 and even had rifling that twisted in the oposite direction. Today they are rare and expensive.
But except for the thumb safety, all of the other controls on a regular M1911 seem to be easier to use left handed. So once you get an ambi thumb safety you'll have no problems at all.__________________

Ambi safty is the ticket then. I really liked the looks of the warrior...and also like the wilson CQB, but geez...then we are talking moolah! I will probably end up with a SA or another kimber model. What is the general feel for the warrior II (edit: read the threat right below this one...apparently I need to look out for what safety the 1911 has? Any advice?)?Last edited by HillBilly; 02-05-2006, 9:30 PM.Comment

Not on the Cali DOJ list, and may still be in pre-production. But still worth a look, if not just for yucks:
