    Sights making P226 shoot low?

Alright so I swapped the standard sights on my P226 9mm for some nice, new, and expen$ive Trijicon Bright & Tough Night Sights.

The guns point of aim prior to switching was perfect for combat sights(POA=POI), now with the upgraded Trijicon's the gun shoots 1-1.5" low anywhere within 15 yards. I didn't shoot any further than 15 yards because it didn't seem necessary as the gun was clearly shooting low.

From Sig Sauer Website: "All SigSauer production duty/combat pistols are set up to use a "combat" sight picture. This is where the front sight completely covers the bulls eye of the target. Using a six o'clock ("pumpkin on a post") or center mass ("half'n'half") sight picture will result in low impact. SigSauer, Inc sights in all non-sporting and non-target pistols for 2.5 inch groupings @ 15 yards."

Before anyone says "it's probably you, not the gun", I can confirm that it is NOT. Myself and 2 other buddies who are excellent shots(same hole @ 10-15 yards with the right hardware consistently) all had the same results.

Any useful input would be appreciated
    , similar experiences, remedies, etc...

I'll probably end up calling Trijicon tomorrow and seeing what they have to say as well.

Are those the HD sights?....because otherwise your right that is way too expensive....optics planet has those 30 bucks cheaper, surprised they charged that much.

In any case, I went from that pair of Trijicon to Mepro's (the mepros are brighter and slightly bigger, but beyond 15 yards they aren't as precise.
I'm hitting POI with both brands though.

No...the HD series is a new one, it was priced above what I see them atm so I figured you got these, "HD" sights, http://www.trijicon.com/na_en/produc...t1.php?id=HDNS.
In any case I didnt see a price portion when I posted, it said you edited so I assumed you added that and other info later, maybe my browser didnt load everything, I didnt see the picture till I reloaded the page anyways.

I'm surprised its that far off, although, do you have a picture of the target possibly?

Sometimes installations can be off a bit, I've done it, wish I had little sight installation machine myself.

I added the pricing info in order to avoid further comments on that aspect of the sights because it's not relevant to my question and on this website I could see something related to the sticker price findings its way into every post... The price comment was not directed at yourself, sorry for the confusion, if anything I appreciate you posting that so I could avoid it happening again with my newly edited disclaimer.

I didn't take a picture of the target. My groups were literally one large hole(all the shots touching), just under my intended point of impact. I'll post pictures if I shoot it again before I do something with the sights.

How could the installation be a bit off in terms of vertical impact? I understand sights aiming left or right after installation, but causing the gun to shoot low?

            You paid THAT for THOSE???

Seriously though, have you had the installation double checked by a gunsmith?

              Ya ya very funny!

The sights were installed by a good friend/gun shop employee with the Sig Sauer factory sight pushers under gunsmith supervision. He's worked on other Sig sights before and there hasn't been an issue but it sounds like it's worth it to double check his work.

Just out of curiosity though, how could installation of the sights be done improperly and lead to the vertical impact being off?

I have never change the sight on my sig before, but I notice little number stamped on the side of the front and rear(6 and 8) sight. Do you need to match these with your new sight.
                Maybe that its.

Yea....I wonder. I had my West German Sig p226 sent to refinish the slide and the whole Sig package and got it back with the mepros, now I was getting POI with the Trijicons, but I only shot the new mepros at 12 yards max, I was warming up and hadnt shot in 3 months with that pistol. I took one more mag at 15 yards and noticed they were slightly below where my front sight was, they really may be set up for six clock hold! I will evaluate mine next month at the range. I thought the last months may have been a fluke.

Well, we found my buddies issue was the rear sight, and he shot to the left. The front sight I'm thinking is the culprit, alot of people end up calling Sig to get different height sights for the front sight. I'm wondering if this front sight was the issue.

Yes, when a gun is shooting low the easiest way to correct it is either: 1) Lower Front sight or 2) Higher rear sight.

I guess what I really just don't understand is why in the world Trijicon would manufacture sights for a specific model gun that change/impair the original(perfect) combat sight point of impact? Is that what happens when engineers in the backroom design products with a pencil, protractor, and calculator but never have the chance to physically test them out???

                      Yea, I'm not sure.

I haven't ever used the six clock hold, if mine is indeed set up for that beyond 10 or so yards, ugh I'm gonna have to figure out that sight picture and get used to it. Wish they'd make the damn Sig contrast sights in tritium.

I have a 226 that has aftermarket Trijicon night sights and it shoots point of aim. I am not sure what the difference is between the night sights and the sights you have but the height is probably the same. Have you had someone else shoot the gun?

Well it sounds like you know what you are doing. I would see if they will send you a lower front sight.

I've read of issues with aftermarket sights installed at the Sig factory before. I think it's something worth checking into.
