thanks for the link. The gun in question is owned by a private party out of state. Just working a trade with him.
can the handgun be shipped to my FFL without the threaded barrel for transfer ?

        Are you LEO?

Is the private party your: parent, grandparent, or child?

If no on both of the above than the gun must be on the Cal DOJ list or transfered under an SSE...

You will also not be able to use the threaded barrel in the gun unless you permanently attach a muzzle device or have the threads ground off.

Or use a magazine lock device.

Doing a single shot exemption on a 1911 is easy. All of the gun shops in CA that do SSE's do them for 1911's. If you don't want to do one of the three things listed above (permanent muzzle device, grinding threads off, or installing a mag lock) to make a threaded barrel legal to use on the gun, then I would suggest buying another barrel. It's legal to own the threaded barrel in CA, but you cannot install it in a semi-auto pistol with a drop mag. So keep it somewhere so you can use it if you leave the state, but install a non-threaded barrel to use in CA.

thanks. So the out of state seller can just ship it without the barrel to my FFL (riflegear) and they will transfer it as a SSE ? I'll buy another non threaded barrel from nighthawk.

Well your FFL has to be able to convert it to single shot exempt form... if Riflegear can do it for you then yes, that's all you have to do.

Ship it without the barrel installed. You should still get the barrel and keep it in case you use the gun out of state later or sell it.

...and yeah, not all FFL's do single shot exemptions, so you'll need to talk to riflegear first to see if that's something they're capable of. If not, find another one in your area or maybe you can "rent" the SSE parts (long barrel, single shot sled for the magazine, etc) from Table Rock Arms.

I purchased my STI 2011 from a private party in Florida.

No big deal. I had his FFL ship the gun to Rafael Esqueda in Bakersfield, who did the single shot conversion/transfer/DROS.

Ten days later I converted it back to its original configuration and had my off roster pistol.
