    RIA 1911 Tactical ammo issues????

Just got my RIA 1911 Tactical .45 yesterday and as i was reading the owners manual i noticed it said that it is made to function with 230g RN bullets. I think i remember people saying that they will eat anything you put in them, but I wanted to know if anyone WHO OWNS A RIA TACTICAL .45 has ever had any FTF's or FTE's, and what specific type of ammo your RIA doesn't like. (I don't care about your Kimber, your S&W, your SA, your Para, or anything else......just the RIA Tactical .45 that YOU OWN)

I'm also really interested to hear if anyone reloads for their RIA Tac's, what their lightest, least power load they can consistently cycle is.
(ie: XXg bullet with XXg of ____powder)

I own an RIA 1911 Tach....

But I would rather talk to you about my Kimbers, my S&Ws, and my SAs. So I will refrain from commenting.

When i I had my tactical I mainly ran my 185gr and 200gr lead reloads. Both ran fine and were accurate. I would run 4 grains of bullseye with 200s for sure and I think the 185s. Mark

mine doesn't like SWC's, but that was likely an extractor issue, other than that it eats anything from a good magazine

Well so far I've only fed it Wallyworlds 230 gr RN but I'm a little over 500 rounds with no problems.

Mine eats everything. The only FTF's I've ever had were a problem with Wilson mags. Mine hates Wilson mags regardless of ammo used.

While I do not own one, I have worked on a couple of them.
Both needed some breechface clean up and extractor tweaking.
Once this was done, both guns work with everything.

One of my buddies used to be the king of wimp loads....ones that you could see the bullets go downrange because they were moving so slow.
He just loved getting a bang from the cheapest, most minimal loads possible.
Eventually he stuck a bullet in the barrel and then fired another round, splitting the barrel open like a peeled banana.
I'm not so fond of these wimp loads...I would suggest looking at mid-range loads that will work right and not damage your gun.

I tried some lead round nose (230 grn) hand loads and I think that the OAL was a tad too long as it would lock up the slide so I could do anything (trigger not moving, slide not moving, etc). The general consensus was the longer round was jammed diagonally halfway in the chamber. But these were my own handloads. The RIA Tac fired all the factory 230 gn FMJ round nose that I fed it.

I then loaded up 50 plated hand loads (230 gn round nose) and it fed all those without a problem.

I wouldn't blame the gun for this, I think my reloads would have choked any 1911. My glock ate them fine, but different chamber, mags, etc, so not a fair comparison.

Yes eats anything but kinda picky when it comes to Hollow Points... My Kimber is like that...
It will still shoot them but your FTF increases

My RIA tactical is a picky eater. Rather shoot my Colt. I wish I would have bought the sig 1911 that was in the case next to my RIA.

yes, i definitely will stay away from wimp loads like that. I don't want that happening. But i too would like to use the least amount of powder that is SAFELY possible to extend the life of the brass and keep costs down.

I know there's a break in period of about 500rds...is it best to just use factory 230's for this before using other weights or does that really matter????

200 gr lead cast with 4.8~5 gr of 231 is what i run for my springer but i have shot other ria 1911's with good results.

Every hp I've used fed fine.

The only jams I've had were with a box of Blazer Aluminum. It seemed as though the aluminum case was thicker and would snag. Maybe with a little polishing it would feed.

                              Mine hates WWB. Period.

First time I shot it, I was about halfway through the second box before the rounds began to dive into the ramp. A quick tap of the slide solved it, but it was a persistent thing. The rounds simply did not want to feed up a dirty ramp.

These were round nose, 230 gr, too. Don't get me started on the JHP's....

Although, I recently fired a box of Winchester PDX and my RIA ate them like candy. So, maybe it's getting better?
