I'm looking at one and would like a bit of background from people who have used them. I see that many goverment forces used them but have drifted to Glocks. Are the Berettas reknowned as reliable and accurate handguns? what grain ammo have people used to get the best accuracy?

Berretta 92FS accuracy?

They are ok, probably more reliable than accurate though. I guess the major complaint is that the grip frame is rather large for a 9mm, heck the gun is a little over sized all around for being a 9mmwww.culinagrips.com

Although I'm interested in this too, as I'm looking for a new (as in factory new, not new to me... seems to be the hazard of having an 03FFL) 9mm for getting range skills down with.1928 Tula 91/30 | 1944 Izhevsk M44 | As yet unknown 91/30 and M44 - still in the box | 1976 Walther P-1...Daddy, what else did you leave for me?

I have a 96 and its pretty darn accurate. The biggest problem with berettas IMO are the shooters. People pick them up and expect to be able to shoot tight groups out of the box. When they cant hit the paper they blame the gun.The double action trigger takes some getting used to, and definitely takes some strength to master. After thousands of dry firing with a snap cap, I can shoot pretty well.
I don't treat my guns like a marine would, so I don't have problems with reliability. Every round I've fired has fed, fired and extracted perfectly. Most of us don't expect to use our guns in the mud and sand and then need them to save our lives, so I would say that it is 100% reliable under the conditions that you will encounter. That said, even in poor conditions, it has a reputation for reliability AFAIK.Comment

I currently own a 92 & an Elite 96. Both shoot less than 3" groups at 25 yards benched. As accurate as my old P226, several other 92s, Glocks, same grade 1911s, Browning HPs.
I love my Berettas.GCC

I had one it was accurate enough. But not as accurate as my Kimber. My mom has one also and it is as accurate as mine was. Its reliable enough with factory mags, but not very reliable with none factory mags. Thats why they are having so many problems with them over seas. I always shoot 115 or 147 grain rounds. I also put some hot loads threw mine and it was fine. I wish I still had it.Comment

I've shot the 92 several times and am a glock owner. I love both but if I was looking for groups I would lean towards the 92 more. Great DA second pull IMO. One of my fav DA guns as of right now. But for reliability I will always run back to my glock just to help me sleep at night but both are great guns and are probably just as reliable as one another.
I know the navy and army still use the m9s because I work for the navy every day and see them on the guards every morning. I personally shoot better groups with the 92 but both guns could probably out shoot me everyday.Comment

Thank your neighbor and fellow gun owners for passing Prop 63. For that gun control is a winning legislative agenda.

More accurate than most shooters, as are all pistols!! Mme and mine included.
They are durable handsome guns, and fit a mans' hand rather nicely, especially with a houge grip. I think the INOX model 92 is very nice.
The trigger could be a bit lighter, but it is a crisp break. It has a safety, glocks don't...so you get a little margin of safety there, although one should never consider a safety to be safe!
They don't run when dry very well, so use lube on them, a little bit helps a lot, a medium amount really helps. They are real steel guns...so its a bit heavier than some of the newer poly guns. Felt recoil however is less. Sights are good.
They are a good deal. Buy one from a calgunner on this forum.I love America for the rights and freedoms we used to have.Comment

Read my review, it is basically the same experience I have had with all berettas I have ever encountered and given my history....that is A LOT!"Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." -Ben FranklinComment
